1994 Monster M600

I have an early M600 in yellow, which I have owned now for over 10 years, but in recent years it has been a bit neglected. :(

The plan is to rejuvenate it with some paint and polish and some new bits and bobs.

The problem is that have been thinking about doing something with it for years but never get round to it - hopefully this thread will help inspire me to "get my finger out".

A few years ago

I not sure yet about paint. On one hand I'd like to keep it original looking but, as I've already taken a hacksaw to it, why bother - I like the idea of black and gold like a Darmah. The engine needs an overhaul and refinishing too but it's not lookin too bad overall for its 17 years.

Time to get the spanners out.

I saw a 900 parked up at the quayside in La Rochelle yesterday, black and gold paint job, twin pipes and open clutch - looked stunning.
 
If you are going down the "classic" route with colours then how about blue & silver as an alternative to black & gold?

Click on here and then go to "PHOTO GALLERY" and then 750-900SS.

If you click on the 750GT-Sport then there is always the yellow and black route seeing you are halfway there anyway?
 
I've more or less decided on a yellow and black scheme.

There was an white and black tank and seat cowl on Ebay last week that I liked the look of - substituting the white for yellow.

The engine will be all silver so it stands out against the black frame and the lines of the frame are not lost.

The wheels will either be the same metalic grey used on my 998 or just bead blasted and laquered whch I know looks good as I've used it before but not sure if it'll be too silvery.
 
Nice! What is the proper name for that tank logo font? I call it 'the sort of square one' but not everyone gets it :rolleyes:
 
Started dismantling the Monster today. Well I say started, I took the right hand foot rest/exhaust hanger off...... and broke it :mad: I might be able to get it welded up.

I hope this isn't setting a precedent.

I took lots of photos before I started so I'll have a point of reference for running the wiring, cables, etc.. when it gets put back together.
 
Just bagged a new unused replacement foot rest/exhaust hanger off Ebay (other auction sites are available) for £20 plus P+P - result :)

I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing this complete - always been a monster fan, particularly the early generations.

As a side observation...where the f* did 15 years go? I could have sworn the monster- as a model - was only a few years old...:confused:
 
Over the last 10 days or so, I've been nipping out to the shed, whenever I've had a spare 30 minutes.

Bike is now a bare, rolling frame with the engine still in place:

Next job is to remove the exhaust - which I'm not looking forward to, as I believe it has been there since it left the factory. Once that's done and the oil drained from the engine, I'll drop the engine (or raise the frame - whichever is easier) and the real work can start.
 
Surprised, on the paint question no one suggested gulf oil racing colours, light blue and orange, not used enough imho, I know of one monster that was done like this and looked amazing
 
Actually you can do a lot with black. Keep to the same shade and use mixtures of high gloss, satin and matt to achieve interesting effects. If red bikes weren't faster I'd have black.

I did think about that but the 695 was available from the factory like that and I'm looking to end up with something a bit different.

Again, something I considered but I think the lines of the frame etc would be lost in an all black scheme.

I saw an S4R a few years back the was a mix of gloss, satin, and matt blacks and while it did looked good, I wasn't convinced I could make it work.

I think they look better with the Castrol colour scheme often mistaken for the Italian flag. Cant remember where I picked this from but was trying to decide on what I was going to do with mine.
