Rossi Continues.

Valentino Rossi also had some big news as he announced he would continue racing a further two years past 2012, yet not before commenting on Stoner: "Yes, it’s a big surprise. I think it’s bad news for all the MotoGP world because at the end of the season maybe we’re losing one of the great riders and a great rival. Is negative, but it’s his own decision. For me it’s very difficult to understand where my retirement news started from, as I never spoke about my retirement. I want to race in MotoGP for the next two years for sure."

stoner wants stoning if he packs in,the ungrateful sh@tbag should realize how well off he is!complaining he's lonely in Europe! he should try being an Indian over here working in a 24hr garage at night getting loads of sh@t off all his customers! i hope honda sack him! whinging little............

So he wants to retire and spend time with his family....what's wrong with that???

remember he has been over here since he was about 13 living in caravans all year round, competing i british championships. nobody can say he hasnt done his time.
I wish he'd kept going for a lot longer.
It is good to hear Rossi is keeping on going as maybe he will get a bike that can be ridden to a win, maybe Honda

i disagree strongly,as you do with me,its a forum, where you express your opinion,as it goes i have quite strong one about him whinging and quitting and whinging some about quitting,i read an article about him on the bbc he was waffling about the sport changing, his bike had gone from 800 to 1000 cc,he'd fallen out of love with the sport blah blah whinge! i'm sorry but it just don't get it and i'm a family man too.
oh and have you seen the"caravans" they live in? i ve seen inside shakey burns at last years croft bsb,i'd swop it for my house!
much love lidlika over and out

Like him or loathe him stoner is an awesome rider
I was a big fan of his since the 125 days his talents on a bike speak for themself and that in itself will be a huge loss to the sport
But victory seems to have had an adverse effect on his nature and he no longer seems happy aout anything and only he knows why
And without the love and passion for the sport there is no point in going on
and with so few places in moto gp it will give someone who wants to be there the chance of a ride
I hope that Ducati will provide Vale with a bike worthy of him but that i think is unlikely
so rossi back on a winning bike at honda ?
stoners exit may not be so bad for the sport afterall

Stoner said that he's lost the passion and isn't enjoying it anymore.

Well, riding a Honda can do that to the best of us :D;)

Seriously though, check out this story about a malfunction on Hayden's bike at Estoril:

http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-d...akes-on-dangerous-life-of-its-own&newsid=6946

The point is not so much about the malfunction - as any MTS1200 owner knows, things go wrong from time to time ;) - it's about how little control the riders have over their own bike. Stoner has always come across as a man who enjoys riding the bike and "beating the track" as much if not more than beating other riders. If things are getting to the stage where the bike is making more decisions that the riders maybe he's just not finding it fun anymore. Rossi has hinted that he's not enjoying the riding as much as in the past and I think he would be retiring if he'd had a good two years on the Ducati. He's unlikely to want people's final memory of him to be 7th place finishes.

Eddie Lawson used to hate travelling around with the "GP circus", flying all over the world to stay away from home for months at a time. He retired after 10 seasons in Grand Prix racing. This is Stoner's 11th...

That's not you doing a little whinging yourself is it? Maybe you and stoner would get along fine lol
Opinions are one thing but yours is a bit ott.......in my opinion.
You say he should be stoned? And sacked? For what? Whinging? Maybe you should be stoned...and sacked!!! :p
But then it's not for me to criticise you, as I don't know you, but then again, you don't know casey stoner so maybe you should show a little respect, in my opinion:D

My not liking stoner is rather will documented;) but i can see his point on this one, loaded, stunning wife, new kid aint enjoyin his job anymore. why bother risking his neck. good luck to him( wont miss him though:D)

Key point here is one simple statement.

He's not enjoying the racing anymore!

And unless we're talking about one of those top secret, hush hush government jobs that you 'don't walk away from' for fear of being gassed as you're packing your suitcase and waking up in a replica of your room on a strange island policed by vicious weather balloons you see all the time on telly I think it's perfectly reasonable for him to say, enough.
I think he'll still race in something somewhere, who knows what interesting things will come from this?
Plus, Rossi on the Honda, a bit more Lorenzo / Rossi rivalry, who wouldn't want to see that, :D
I find it odd people take umbrage with Stoner, he's not flamboyant and entertaining in the pits and interviews like Rossi or as plain down to earth funny as Cal and he probably can't make a cup of tea to rival Guy Martins, (ok, not GP I know), but he's a bloody good racer and he takes it seriously, that's why he gets grumpy and @@@@ed off when things aren't right, after all, the race is what GP's all about, not whether he looks lik a fun bloke you'd invite to your BBQ, you can turn off once they've passed the chequered flag if you want.
(One reason I love Sky+, I record it then zip through the 1st half hour of pit lane waffle to the race)

Racing for some people might be just about racing and winning.
For others its the whole package.
or don't fans matter?

Of course fans matter:)
Stoner has a lot of fans, he also has a certain personality, which may not be to everyone's liking, but he's a winner and thats what matters to him and his fans.
The same can be said of Rossi, certain personality, different from stoner, more likeable, and a winner also (more so than stoner).

Exactly.
;)

stacey moaner, beat off rossi, and on the last lap too......i bet the track was too wet for him! i'm loving it rossi rossi rossi

the caravans stoner and the others use now is nothing like the ones he was living in all year round as a kid while his dad paid to keep him racing here. Not big company sponsorship. you sure your names not windae licker?

oh dear here's the grumpnastys out to get me..........i've been on here longer than you, hence you must be a bit dimm+ i am better than you! and lambrettas vespas etc? i'd rather stay at home and self harm!

Wish I could have had enough money to retire and enjoy my family at the ripe old age of 26.

After 14 year of hard slog, wonderful riding and a few titles I don't grudge him a moment of his retirement. He may not be the most charismatic rider in the field but he certainly is one of the best.

Hard choice - walk away when you're on top to build a family life you yourself never had or continue to risk you life with the possibility of leaving a young widow and family.

Well said Mary. He's also young enough that he could return to racing in a few years if wants to.

Hmm.... I don't know if that is ever a good idea. After taking such a difficult decision in the first place, imagine coming out of retirement then getting seriously injured (or worse). What a mind-fcuk that would be.

So If you had a shed load of money, a nice family but didn't like your job you would still carry on doing it!! Sounds like sour grapes to me. Anyway as I see it he is just not renewing his contract, everyone has that right. I think Schumacher summed it up for me "If he's not enjoying it take a sabbatical assess his life then make a decision about the future" I think it would be difficult to make a reasoned decision in the cauldron of the Moto Gp paddock.

dont think i mentioned anywhere about time here or that i was better than you. but if the cap fits, stay at home and self harm all you want

Stoner will struggle in retirement. He's known nothing other than racing since he was knee high to a platypus. He might think fishing will keep him amused, but I'm not so sure.

Of course the fans matter but the point i'm making is Stoner is very committed to the race and has a different way of expressing himself, as a result he gets labelled a moaner.
Rossi can (openly at least) laugh it off a bit BUT, if you notice when he has a really bad race he's pretty nifty at dissapearing into the back of the garage and huddling in a corner avoiding the cameras.

As an aside, there are rumours that Stoner will be looking at racing a a V8 car series in Australia, he's dabbled in it and shown promise and seems to enjoy it, I honestly can't see him leaving racing, I guess it's the kind of thing that gets in your blood when you've done it so long.
It's not bad thing either as it opens doors for new up and coming talent, Apparently Bradley Smith is looking toward GP and showing some real promise, nice to have some home grown talent.

You can't be serious?

Anyone who risks their life for their job is entitled to moan.

He is is own man with his own mind, not some corporate piece of property.

As for caravans, he not have been living in a big plush motor home when he got here, aged 14.

Even his first year on the Ducati he was only being paid 30,000 euro.

He is going to be a massive loss to the sport, and no doubt people like you, the ones that boo him at events like riders for Health charity events or for winning at Donnington have played a part in him no longer enjoying the sport.

Well done!

Not wanting to divert the thread from the very important (it must be as we end up discussing it so often ), Rossi vs Stoner / my Dad's bigger than your Dad type conversation we've got going on here, but here's a nice pic of Rossi testing an updated GP12 at Mugello yesterday.

And here's a report of what they were doing: http://motomatters.com/news/2012/05/24/ducati_completes_test_at_mugello.html

As you were.

That swingarm doesn't look like it's carbon fibre anymore. Don't tell me they've switched back to aluminium:eek::p

Sorry, just read the link... They have changed it:o
