94 900ss rear wheel issue?

Hi, so I noticed my rear sprocket carrier and sprocket bolts are incredibly close to the swingarm, in the past they’ve met and there’s a scoring on the arm inner face.
I removed wheel, when the axle nut was loose the gap increased and looks correct.
The outer spacer was inserted with the cone to the outside. To me it seems like that spacer is wrong in length or something is missing?
I’ll attach some pics to explain, any input would be appreciated as always

thank you Derek, resting an engineers rule against it when I’ve inserted it the other way around doesn’t seem to improve, although I’ve not put the wheel back in, I’ll do that now 👍

It's quite a well known mistake. The wide side of the spacer should bear against the inside of the swinging arm and the narrow side against the inner of the sprocket carrier bearing.

As suspected, it’s the same unfortunately.
It just seems like you have to bend the swingarm when tightening the axle. I’ve not known this before and with the scarring to the inner face of swingarm, it can’t be right

thanks for the image, it’s hard to confirm where #25 goes, I presume the cylindrical spacer with a shoulder is fitted from the inside out (cone to the inside) ? I think I’m missing another spacer that fits on cylindrical spacer and swingarm, this would dictate the space when you tighten the spindle?

Interestingly the '92 - '97 shows 2 rear wheel spacer arrangements. The earlier bikes in this pic show a spacers (26) inboard of each wheel bearing.

The later bikes don't have the spacer. Item 25 is the conical spacer in both cases, fitted between the swinging arm and the sprocket carrier bearing, conical side inward. I don't what year the change was made but the diameter of the axle was changed in about '93 -'94.

Hi Derek, I’ve just ordered this from Moto Rapido #1. This makes sense if the spacer is inserted from the inside, hopefully this item meets the outside of the spacer and gives a proper landing area against the swingarm. Well worth the £13.66 if correct.
Thank you for your input though 👍
Worryingly the previous owner last used it racing at Spa like that!!

Hallo Jon.
Ik heb hetzelfde probleem.
ring zit, verkeerd en is door vorige eigenaar flink beschadigd.
Ik ben zelf draaier, en wil een nieuwe maken.
Kun je mij de totale hoogte geven van de nieuwe ring?
Goed!

Hi Jon. I have the same problem. The ring is in the wrong place and was badly damaged by the previous owner. I am a turner myself and want to make a new one.
Can you give me the total height of the new ring? Good!

John
