A few days in the alps

Hi , booked flights last night to go and spend a week in Annecy near Geneve in the South of France. Have spoken to the misses about hiring a bike for maybe 3 days or so and spending it in the Alps. Thought it was a great idea to start with , but the more i think about it the more i think it can,t be that easy. There,s bike hire, insurance, helmet, leathers and temperature and thats just for starters. Don,t have a plan in mind at the moment as this is in it,s infancy , was just going to go out for the day then head back to the house at the end of the day over a three day period. I,ve never done this before so any advice no matter how small would be greatly appreciated so i,ve got a small amount of knowledge before i go . cheers Kenny.

btw guys, I know the area quite well - my wife's parent live out there, and I enjoy cycling and motoring round the roads in that area (my wife used to be a pro cyclist, so showed me all the good quiet mountain roads). I used to take the opportunity to blast there and round the local routes, while the wife flew over - but now we have a very daughter, it's just not practical now

On my K1200S (BMW, in my pre-ducati days sorry....), I made it from Edinburgh to Geneva in <14hrs ride time. (not including the chunnel). I'll let you do the sum on that one...(it's 1000 miles door-to-door). No officer, I never exceeded 69.9mph in the uk...

So instead of hiring, you've got the option to totally head-down/arse up motor there in a day, then chill out on the roads for a week, then repeat the run home. Train and fuel will probably cost you the same as renting anyway (remember - it's switzerland).

This time of year, it's glorious btw
