Colne to Hawes.
Right! Hope I have done this correctly.
Starting from the end of the M65 at Colne, as you come to the roundabout at the end of the motorway keep left, carry straight on for about a mile until you come to a roundabout just after the Morris Dancers pub turn left at this roundabout. This takes you to Skipton on the old road. Some very fast sections with quite a few crests that a SBK will wheelie very easily on, after quite a few miles you will come to a Cattle grid the section between here and the next cattle grid is also pretty quick with some bits of wheelie humps etc. Take care between the 2 cattle grids as you can encounter sheep. Follow the road straight through the small village of Carleton until you come to some traffic lights, turn left at these and carry straight on through Skipton High St. At the top of the Rd by the Castle is a roundabout where you turn left, carry on till you reach the roundabout on the A59 where you take the turning for the B6265 which takes you to Kettlewell. At Kettlewell carry on towards Aysgarth/Leyburn at Buckden you have 2 choices of which way to get to Hawes.
1. Carry straight on the B6160, there is a mixture of road types here some which will suit Multistradas etc and then the road opens up where you can let rip with a SBK. You eventually come to a T junction where you turn left and after 200 metres the road forks where you need to keep left up to Aysgarth Then its the good old A684 to Hawes.
2. (The slightly more scenic Multistrada option) From Buckden take the little left turning for Hubberholme and basically carry on to Hawes. This road is a little narrow in places but you follow a small river for a few miles and its very scenic. there are a couple of small bridges that cross the river so you spend so long with the river on your right and then so long with it on your left. Watch out for the patches of gravel on the bridges themselves. Eventually you will start to climb pretty high up and its fairly wild up there with not a lot about. But what views! As you climb up a lot of the interesting views will actually be behind you so keep having a peek on the slow bits. Eventually you will drop down into Hawes where you WILL end up in the Penny Garth cafe!
Take care as always there are plenty of little tricky bits to catch out the unwary! There is a bit of everything for SBK and Multistrada riders alike.
