British Eurosport has denied clinching a deal to continue showing coverage of the MotoGP world championship in 2009.

But MCN understands that a deal is close to being reached with MotoGP rights owners Dorna for coverage to continue on British Eurosport in 2009.

However, the deal is not expected to include live coverage of the MotoGP race. With the BBC having exclusive rights to show MotoGP in the UK, MCN understands as a result of that exclusivity, British Eurosport will show the MotoGP race delayed and not live.

Live coverage of the 125 and 250 races is expected to remain, as is British Eurosport’s heavy output of practice and qualifying from all three classes.

It is all part of a new deal struck by British Eurosport bosses and follows similar negotiations conducted by French Eurosport with Dorna.

But a British Eurosport spokeswoman told MCN: “At the moment there is nothing to add regarding MotoGP."

Dorna announced last June that it would end its long-standing collaboration with Eurosport.

The decision was part of Dorna’s new strategy of working with national network broadcasters around Europe, always focusing first and foremost on free-to-air coverage to bring MotoGP to wider audiences.

That deal effectively ended Eurosport’s international coverage, but in October Dorna cut a deal to continue coverage with the French arm of Eurosport.

Dorna’s decision to ditch MotoGP provoked a flood of complaints from fans in the UK, upset at the loss of favourite commentary team made up of Julian Ryder, Toby Moody and Randy Mamola.

well, I hope its true, if it were beeb only i wouldnt bother following it any more, the ads on eurosport can be annoyinf, but not as musch as the commantary and the dumbass interviews by suzie perry..... my £1 worth (sorry, don't do small change ;))

Spot on Steve, I couldn't be arsed with the BBC coverage, Eurosport was brilliant for the whole weekend of MGP.

I always watched it live when poss on eurosport...bloody awful on beeb. Only turned over when ads came on and then turned back. Won't be the same if eurosport don't show it live....particularly as I will be in Cyprus:D...not sure beeb broadcasts that far

yea its good to listen to Mamola talking about the racing as he knows what hes talking about, on the bbc theyre noobs

I agree with you about the Eurosport commentators no doubt they are better informed than the BBC lot and I could listen to their commentary while watching the BBC picture and that stopped when I got a new TV

I have a horrible feeling that the Eurosport coverage will be heavily truncated with ad breaks into a 1 hour slot and the only good thing will be that it'll be repeated several times. The insight will probably not as detailed as it was.

I know this goes against the flow but I don't find Steve Parish's commentary that far from reallity, and no adverts!!!!
I'll now duck and try to avoid the flack.

At the risk of being unfashionable I'll second 851jim's comments. BBC commentary is much, much better than Eurosport where Toby Moody just mangles everything. Julian Ryder is very good & will be a big loss (I met him once y'know) but Moody is awful. Randy Mamola I can take or leave too, being a good GP rider doesnt mean you can communicate effectively.
I'll miss the 125's live though.

I always felt eurosport was much better and like sticky i would only switch across during the adverts.

Although Suzi Perry is quite easy on the eye ;)

She seemed to get more grid interviews than that Matt feller too!

The other thing that I found was the Eurosport transmission was in 4.3 when the BBC was in proper widescreen

I do hope this is true.
To be honest, I find the BBC commentary so bad that it will put me off watching, it did last year when I was watching away from home, they just seem to have that knack of making the sport the dullest thing on the planet, cant be bothered with the eyelash batting of Perry either.
I like Moody and remember when he was teamed with Noyes, that made for a more flowing commentary rather than with Ryder, though you cant fault Ryders knowledge of the sport, and you just dont get any more informed than Mamola.
I'll record it from Eurosport and skip through the ads,at least I'll get to see the 125 and 250 races if they cover it, I dont get freeview so my only option is satellite.

You can pay an annual subscription of £39 to watch Eurosport 1 and 2 via your laptop.
Yes, but it will be nearly all football, golf, tennis and god knows what other crap! Not for me. I'll put up with the BBC. What you've never had you never miss :D

As MCN exclusively revealed last week, MotoGP will stay on British Eurosport in 2009, with an official announcement expected later this week.

MCN understands a deal has been reached between Dorna and the BBC to allow British Eurosport to continue to screen all three Grand Prix world championship classes.

But as we reported last week, the MotoGP race will not be screened live, but delayed later on the same day.

British Eurosport won’t screen the MotoGP race live because the BBC has exclusive rights to screen the premier class clash live. The 125 and 250GP races though will be live on British Eurosport.

Full details of the new agreement will be unveiled later this week but there is still no confirmation of whether the popular commentary team of Julian Ryder, Toby Moody and Randy Mamola will remain.

Last night i was watching the top 5 WSB races from last season. A great build up to this weekend's first race of the new season. For £39 a year i was well impressed with the quality of the picture and sound.

Eurosport has now been comfirmed as broadcasting the GP.

Further good news seems to the that Melandri will race this year too
http://www.crash.net/MotoGP/News/143381/1/melandri_will_race_kawasaki_in_motogp.html

I'm really pleased at this, though I dont think his bike will be good enough to win races I hope he does well and puts last seasons results behind him.
No news about Hopkins though, he has always promised much but not delivered anywhere near the runner up position that melandri has already reached a couple of years ago.

Woohoo

Me happy again.....:)

Don't mind watching the re-run as it's worth it just to avoid Toot & Ploot on BBC.

On the hotter GP transmission days I was normally out on my bike anyway and then returned to see how it should be done on the VCR with a cold beer

Just made my day reading this (in a very sad kinda not got much else on way :) )
