As I finish off reading the weekend papers, at long last now that our house guests have gone and I can get some peace and quiet, I get to the back page of the Irish Times Weekend Edition. It’s the classified section, there’s some weird shite gets advertised there, but there’s always ads from David Golding Cars which is a long-standing, well respected, dealer of classic vehicles.
Anyway, this ad caught my attention simply because part of the sales blurb to entice you to consider the car is the statement
‘1 lady owner to 2014’
I mean WTF does that actually mean? Should I assume as it was a lady owner the car’s just been pootled around between home, the hairdresser, home, the nail salon and not been thrashed by someone driving a Porsche as old man Ferdinand intended? Or should I assume that every panel is dented and every wheel is scuffed due to numerous supermarket car park altercations and kerb scuffing when parallel parking ?
What’s happened since 2014? Has it been in the hands of a boy racer since the ‘lady owner’ sold it? Or been passed from owner to owner because it’s trouble?
What does that statement, that sales puffery, actually mean? And, why, in this day and age put something as clearly sexist as that in print? It’s beyond my ability to fathom It out
What do you think?
And, for your further amusement here the rest of the shite that people actually pay to advertise
