ECU / Termi question.

Yep!

And I think there's at least one here who does this already.

Your fuelling won't be optimised for it, but there'll only be an incremental difference I'd imagine mate.

Found a set, have you??

Surely if you run the standard ecu the engine will run too lean and you risk damage at high revs.

The whole point of changing the ecu is to richen up the mixture to compensate for the open pipes.

No?

Im running the standard ECU and Termis. Charlie at Duc Glasgow said when I got mine fitted (Termis) that he has had bother with the race ecu. He said all you need is the CO set up to run fine. Graeme at Shox next door said exactly the same thing. A PC 111 is in my opinion only really needed on the track and for £270 isnt really worth it if its just the noise youre after. Save yourself the cash!!!!

I run a full 57 system with standard ecu on the 999, the race ecu does alter the fueling but more at higher revs, its designed for track use and its rare you'll run at the same revs on the road, the downside of the race cu is that it can alter the fueling in the low/mid range making it more lumpy, no probs on a track but not pleasant in town. Some ecu's also allow higher rev limits before the limiter cuts in, once agin good on a track but how many times do you hit the limit on the road and has your engine been tuned for it.

I could do with a PC 111 on mine but the fueling is fine for what I use the bike for, Duc Glasgow set it up originally and Leeds did the last service and checked it. One day i'll get around to it....

the multi has a race ecu/termi's and I'm sure the original ecu gave better fueling but I want more HP on the multi so can live with it.

That's exactly what I though Davie!

I can tell you the race ECU on my bike is a pile of @@@@e, though I don't have exactly the same bike as you, but @@@@e nonetheless!

It's snatchy and a bit unpredictable at low revs, if I was keeping the bike I would be going down the PCIII route.

I wouldn't bother with it Ian - but it's your bike/money after all!

I'm now running open pipes with the std 5.9 ECU on my ST4s with no problems at all. No Flat spots, no popping or banging, no snatchiness at low speeds. The motor runs just fine and with no indication of running hot. I have the means to adjust the fuel trim if I need to but the bike is running just fine so I'll leave it alone. As Gizmo says on the track it might be a different story but how often are you flat out on the road and for how long?

I'd go for the power commander every time, set up on a dyno. That way you get a Fuel map for your bike not some generic map. The latest power commanders also allow ignition changes.

I wouldn't worry about running lean too much. My 998 was running very lean for yonks or road and track. On an normally aspirated road engine its not that critical, unlike a turbo motor. No sign of damage when my motor was taken apart, but the throttle response was @@@@e, a before dyno run showed it was well lean in mid range and a bit lean at the top end.

It all depends how the bike runs after fitting the termi. If the throttle response is poor, you get backfires into the airbox or other symptoms you didn't have before you should really go for the PC.

I think Tricky has a racefit can on his 749 but not sure what else he did to the bike,

Ray.

Get a PCIII and some dyno time, it's what I did and if you hunt round ebay you can get PCIII's for £150 like I did brand new in the box :D

I have just offered £650 for this little lot, does that sound about right ????

Asymmetric system

Front pipe
End can
Carbon cover for end can
Carbon heat sheild for front exhaust pipe
Brand new Ducati Performance filters
No ecu, but mine ran fine on stock ecu with minor adjustment of injectors. .

Last set went for £712 on ebay, so that kind of figure.

I can send pics. All items unmarked.

Cheers

Ian,
If you are thinking of going down the pc111 route and need dyno time i have a mate who does a top job and is bl**dy reasonable !!
Rob;)

there's nowt on ebay, ducatistore have a new 999 can @ £950 as an internet deal ( don't know if it'll fit a 749), moto rapido do their own can
for 799
other than that casolis twin 996 setup is £650 plus VAT.
if the one you are looking at is good condition, no splits etc then it don't seem too badly priced. I can recall some problems with the Ti cans, I think Real McCoy has had his replaced under warranty.

I'm just waiting for him to get back to me, its come off a 749 so should be OK, will do some more checking when he gets back to me, I don't think it is a titanium system ?

pipe work will be steel , can should be Ti I think or maybe its only ti on the full systems??

Well I don't really know what to ask, I know I need std sump, old style swinger, thats about it though, guess the Mono and Bip are the same ?

mono and bip are the same, only the 999S pre 05/new swingarm has deep sump. i just used silicone to seal the join between can and pipes on mine, it works ok no new gaskets needed. the 54 and 57 pipes are close to the fairing so i bent my bracket out and had to space the footpegs to clear the pipework, standard pipes should be ok.

The pipework is stainless steel, as should the can.

Only the can on the full 57mm ti system should be titanium.

Titanium for exhaust pipework is normally bad news as titanium oxidises at high temperatures. Even the can internals on the ti system should be stainless as opposed to titanium for this reason.
