Good use of a 1098 Engine

...some gorgeous details, cnc machined fittings etc. but like so many before it, - bitty & busy are the adjectives that spring to mind when I look at it!!
sit it next to a DB2 for example, and all of a sudden a design that is now over 15 years old doesn't look so dated - certainly cleaner, smoother.

...not that I'm backward at coming forward mind!!!! ;) :o

Hard to see from those photos what it's like and mirrors look as useless as the 1098  but the tank is bigger by 2.5 litres whoahey :D

don't think i've seen a Bimota yet that I would say looks nice, closest would be the D6r Delrium thingy, they always look too cluttered, especially compared to Ducati's. Best thing for a 1098 motor? I say leave it in a 1098, or give it to me and i'll shoe horn into the 749 :)

Well I actually think it looks pretty good. Obvious nods at 999, quite angular... yeah it looks good.:D

Ah Well

Looks like I'm out on my own then. Looks different and will definitely be exclusive.

I like it :)

No accounting for taste really...

Dougie, I don't hate it, I wish firms like Bimota could still make it in todays bike market, but unfortunately they struggle for reasons that I won't go into here owning a bike from a simular ilk of specialist manufacturer who struggle.
Anyway As I was referring to the DB2 earlier - it is still beautiful, and beat the 916 at being the first to have underseat zorts.....

Even with a half-fairing...

But does this look familar? again, I say bitty and busy/cluttered....

:)

Edd,

They are doing something completely different from every other manufacturer. That type of suspension/steering setup will always look busy.cluttered.

I say hats off to them1

Vive Le Differeance!!!!

Yes, it beat the 916 to it Ed. (..but shhh! Don't mention H*nda!)

Still love the SB2 Bimota myself. Saw one at the TT a few years ago, and it was a real eyeful. But where did they (all!) go? It's VERY hard to find one for sale.

I think that Ducati & Tamburini came up with the 916 after seeing the other designs and had the skill, artistic talent & vision to come up with a timeless beautiful looking bike that just looks so complete. There is only the MV F4 that has come close IMO

I think it is worth trying "different" designs if you are a small player otherwise why would anyone pay the premium to own one?
Some work and some don't.
Benelli have the cafe racer and I had a discussion with DB about this. He thought it was awful and I actually liked it. I thought it looked good in the flesh rather than photos.
At least people have a firm opinion rather than "yeah, it's ok'ish".

...Hub-centre steering didn't & still doesn't work either!!!! :p

I can't disagree with you Paul, I am a stauch individualist and I admire this sort of thing.
Not sure about the SB2 though, I guess it was, much like the DB1, cutting edge at the time!

They had the new DB7 at Woods in Abergele. Don't know if it is still there.

I've got to say IMHO that it is absolutely beautiful, a piece of Italian design that could not come from anywhere else....

....and photographs do not do it justice.

I remember when Ford brought out the first Sierra and I thought the shape looked crap like a tortoise but I soon got used to it and now they all look a bit the same. I suppose bike design has to change or they wouldn't sell any new ones.
