Hello from Merry old New England

Yes it's sad, but it shows how much we rely on electronics. If that bike had modern electronics you could have saved that.
Analogue all day long for me, BSB was great racing but quite boring now for some reason, all electrickery is not allowed!! 🤷‍♂️

I'd love to spend more time on the track. Only been on three and not enough times to gain any proficiency eventhough it is my favorite place to ride how I like. Got into it way too late and can't afford repairs so I'm overly cautious. I'd need a smaller bike, 600 or V2, and a lot of streching. Never had a knee down, quite the opposite, I tuck my knees on lean which must look retarded af. Wish I'd gone full on back in my Buell days. Life happens.
Simply pick up a Ninja 250 or 300 or 400 or a yammi 300. I have several friends who race 600/1000classes but they practice on the little bike to learn to carry momentum into and out of turn, it makes them faster on the big bikes.this is the front tire from his 250, just look at the discoloration from heat. The small bikes are fun and super cheap to run.

I love tracks with big elevation changes. Portimao is my all time favourite closely followed by Donington.
I have never been but those that have been there say that turn7, the one I crashed in, is very much like the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. I was very tired when I crashed. I had just finally learned to get my knee down and I had been having an issue with the steering. My friend figured out that my body position allowed me to turn to a point but then I was putting too much weight onto the bars and could not turn further. I was so happy that the bike was doing what I wanted and I was going much faster than before. I was tired and I put my foot on the peg wrong just before starting the big roundabout where I crashed. I was trying to move my inside foot closer to the frame as my boot was dragging on the ground all the way around. I super over slowed down during the turn and by the time I got to the apex, I was worried another bike may hit me from behind since I was going so slow!. Then my dumb ass grabs a huge hand full of throttle while lifting the bike os the side wall of the tire-- and I went for the big ride to the tire wall

Looking at the video I would say too much gas too soon but I'm no expert and only you know what other factors were involved.
There is a good chance electronics would have saved that as Hugo says.
The first time out on my RSV4 at Donington I was a way off my usual laptimes. When I watched the video back I could see the anti wheelie and traction control holding me back. Next time out I put both on minimum setting and went 3 seconds a lap quicker.
You can see the electronics working on the dash.

I can see the advantage of all the electronics on bikes today. With the level of grip available and 200+ hp on tap, any help could save your life. I am old school. I started riding in the dirt and you were always the traction control not the bike. You had to be in the right gear at the right rpm with your body in the right position and then maybe things went well.

your assessment is correct, I had slowed too much and just added in way too much throttle while still leaned over, and as you said, traction control is especially good at preventing this exact error!

No better teacher than road rash and the bill to repair

How very rude of you not to study the evidence, you'd never make a barista like Zhed and everqueer 🤣
Yeah, well, I didn’t look at the thread title. I clicked on it and watched the vid simply because Hugo posted it so thought it would be clickworthy.

Sorry, @9103 but I just find videos of others riding around a track really boring. Yeah it’s interesting for them, I get that, but for a public audience, I don’t think so (unless it’s the one of Michael Rutter riding a stock Panigale V4S around the TT course - which is entertaining).

Sorry @9103 was that you in that crash video?

I thought it was just some randomer off YT that Hugo posted 😕.
@9103 didn't want to post it because it is 'monetised' and didn't want us to think he was taking advantage of his membership.

I enjoyed watching it so that I could be an armchair critic. I've never been on a circuit (except the NW200) which doesn't count.

There’s one of him doing a lap on a SDR, I’ll have a gander.
Roll on May 30th!! Got to pay the bastard ferry next week!
