Help Needed to Buy a Track Bike

I didn't realise that was only a rumour! :D

Yeh, it's only a rumour at the moment. But I did hear that a poor guy bought a bike from Universal and when he tried to ride the bike it wouldn't move.

You would never believe it but the previous owner had removed the clutch.

What dirty @@@@@@@ would do that??

He must've heard that rumour about you, I mean less scrupulous salvage company employee's ;)

Niall, don't listen to any of these guys, they sound like dodgey geezers to me :D :p

Nc30

I have an NC30 trackbike/race bike I'd like to get rid of for about £600 if you are interested. It's the one in the avatar.

Regards

Dougie

Dougie I've sent you a PM, although I'm thinking the way to go might be to try and find a track ready 748/916.

...hey, I'm almost tempted myself, have you got a RVF4 17" in the rear, can't see from the image?

Project

RE: 17" rear...

Fraid not. My budget didn't stretch that far since they are rare as rockin-horse Sh*t and thus expensive.

The bike is pretty much standard apart from the race can, rear sets and very nice WP rear shock.

A couple of racing off's have ensured that the bodywork is 'a bit second hand...'

:(

How easy are these things (NC30's) to work on if something goes wrong? Are parts expensive/readily available etc?

Working on them is much the same as any other bike, the main difference is how compact these are,you dont have much space to work in.Changing plugs can be tricky because of this. Spares are generally cheap and plentiful (except the aforementioned 17"rear wheel),just put in nc30 (or nc35 too) in an ebay search to bring up a range of stuff.Where it may get pricey is if you intend to restore it to original road trim as oe plastics are getting rarer.
If your looking for a trackbike tatty bodywork shouldnt worry you too much.
If you can blag a go on one then try it,I'd suggest you try mine but its kept in Derbyshire. After a twin they rev like they're about to burst, takes me a while to re-adjust,they steer much quicker too.
Heres a gratuitous picture of mine anyway:D

Everything is very inaccessable and the exhaust is a nightmare to get on and off. Expensive is a relative word. They are all grey imports but parts don't seem to be too hard to get from a few specialist dealers and they do seem to be pretty reliable although my son managed to cook one by holeing the radiator and not noticing until the bike stopped

hey from what I have read, not having riden one with a 17" rear, the std 18" is far better. I certainly didn't have anything to whinge about.

That extra inch

The 17" rear gives you a bigger choice of more modern rubber (Pirelli SCs and Metzeler Racetechs etc)...something that was seen as a fairly big advantage in the race paddock.

I use Dunlop GPR70s which are pretty good with the added bonus that you can get a pair for £130. I have heard that the Bridgestone BT90 has been updated and is better...

In terms of comfort, most trackday sessions are less than 20min so it's not really an issue.

If I had kept mine I would have fitted GPR70s everyone I knew raved about them - weren't they made specifically for the Asia Pacific Race series or something?

RE: GPR70s Asia-Pac series

Ahhh you got me there. I know the are used by some supermoto lads but I think the basic premise is that they are getting on a bit now.

Having said that I only managed to highside on them once... :(
