Iceland is gorgeous , a place like no where else on the planet, I have been horse riding there in July in a t shirt on occasion so it can be warm, doesn’t get dark in summer so long days riding possible, the Icelandic people like to drink Grundwater and sing……😎👍, great people, great country

If things had worked out I'd have bought a house in the far north of Scotland. Summer in the far north can be glorious (even in the rain) with endless summer days. I had masses of hedging work down south back then. I could have earned 50 odd K over six months working through autumn and winter and then scarpered back up north again at the end f March to do bugger all but fish, walk, ride my bike and tend my garden for the spring and summer. I looked at houses in Orkney and had made up my mind to buy something modest and remote, and convert an ex-MOD 4x4 7.5 T lorry into an overlander motorhome and live a split life, travelling down south to work the winter away earning all my income then heading back north for peace, quiet and leisure for the rest of the year. Then Covid hit. Londoners bought up remote properties as covid bolt-holes, prices went through the roof and summer in the northern Isles filled up with middle class Englishers converting their second homes into Airbnbs and the dream died forever.

Goes to show you are not the only one trying to escape the rat race in Less than tropical weather 😕... i just love the feeling of sun on my bones and water on my skin I can't stand bad weather.. im very lucky to make a good living in Ireland while im putting 3 kids through college and every 4-6 weeks I head to the sun which is genuinely our second home.. I don't think I could have a better balance and since I started doing this during covid I actually can't see myself retiring as I actually enjoy working again 👌
