Insurance time again!

So insurance renewal time again, Be Moto, last year their titanium policy with the bells and whistles £181
Got the renewal quotation £316, whaat the fuck, I remember reading in the press insurance policies were cheaper this year as the underwriters have had a good 2020 as no many people using their vehicles, so not that many accidents blah de blah!
So I ring them and they get it down to £224, is that your best price I say? Yes was the retort.
I go to a compare website and low and behold same exact titanium policy for £185, so I thought bugger it, so I opt to pay online.
The fuckers took the payment and then sent a message saying there was a problem and a policy couldn't be activated and to ring them.
So after another lengthy call, all was sorted and I was refunded £4 so I payed the same as last year.
What a kerfuffle!

Guinnesss 🙄

Bennett’s -last year I’d just bought the bike when lockup hit...insurance quote went from £500 to over a grand, Bennett’s was cheapest at that after stripping out pillion, riding other bikes etc.
Getting quotes got full cover...with pillion (new GF wants to try it), other bikes, leathers etc - £370 with Hastings Premier. More like it.

Looking at changing my bike, and looked at insurance.

First bike I checked was a Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX - new with all extras, £13500 - cheapest quote was £890!!!

Next was BMW S1000RR - might update to current model - 2020 £13500 - £660

Last was Panigale V2 - £14500 - £770

Anyone else seeing silly rates, or is this a kneejerk from insurers relating to the war in Ukraine? When convid first lockdown happened I'd just bought my current S1000RR and the insurance almost doubled.

My ST4 insurance was around £78 last year, this year the renewal is £66 fully comp with commuting and pillion.

Best comparison sites were around £78.....

Wot's going on then??

One Call Insurance

'Kin ell....why don't they just give it to you for free...'you're alright Harry, just get us a pint when you see me'.

Maybe crime's gone up round here...but it's been pretty quiet, I think the local smackheads are doing a stretch.

Had to add euro breakdown but stuck with Bikesure, about the same as last year after I’d questioned the renewal price and got them back down - it’s seems the normal practice

I need to find insurance here, my current insurer, a EU version of geico can't cover the total value of the Sf. WTF. I also need to verify the total cost, I thought I heard 102 a month.

Re those who got a renewal quote and then got a cheaper price online from the same company and then the company matched the cheaper price, I thought price gouging like this, ie taking advantage of customers failing to move, was made illegal?

Just for the record, my quote here in ROI for the Multi V4S is €555 plus €90 extra each for the 998S and ST4S on a multi bike policy with Carole Nash 🙁
When I bought my M900 in 1997 after coming off a yammy DT125 it was only £440 fully comp with zero no claims 😬 dude, you must be well dangerous 👍

🙁 the motorcycle insurance game is almost a monopoly here in ROI. There are only 2 underwriters, AXA and Liberty (who are the Irish arm of the Spanish insurer Seguros) then there are 2 brokers, Carole Nash and Pinnacle. My policy is arranged with Carole Nash but underwritten with AXA. If I get a quote for the exact same policy direct with AXA it’s more expensive 😮, go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️. We also have a particularly nasty thing called ‘minimum policy pricing’ which means no policy can be less than €235, or thereabouts, regardless of how much discount you have and what the bike is 😡. It’s all a stitch up 🙁

If only it were possible.

There used to be an insurer, MCE, based in NI who’d write policies in ROI as well as UK but they recently went bust leaving all their clients uninsured.

The market’s just not big enough here for competition to come in and go through the rigmorale of getting approved by and registered with the Central Bank 🙁

Someone must've bought the MCE trademark from the liquidators because they were one of the cheapest quotes for the bikes I was getting quotes for the other day. I had a Multi 1200S insured with them about 3 years ago and it was only about £240 I think.

My friends boy was insured with MCE when they went pop.
He’s back with MCE now, so they’re still trading in some capacity.

MCE Insurance Company Ltd went into administration but MCE Brokers, a separate legal entity, continues to trade albeit it can’t anymore get the policies it arranges underwritten by what was its parent company.
