mini DV plaer

now then , i have to admit defeat,

I just cant get some footage off (a well used shall we say) Panasonic mini DV video camera (a NV-GS11 should you wonder)

I had an err 'enjoyable' time drinking beer and BBQ-ing at harrogate show ground the other week whilst the Clark paraded about with a pony, the Clark's mam couldn't make it (ill health and all that) so I videoed some of the proceedings, the Clark is quite proud of the 'ultra novice pre limb elementary 12 test ' that she did (probably because she won )

the problem i have is the camera just isn't recognised over the fire-wire connection

Take it you have the latest drivers compatible with your version of windows, and other connection types not an option? Hope your not running Vista, as it was horrific for compatibility issues with older software and hardware

I had similar problems several years ago. Simple fix was to not use the firewire and bought pinnacle DV clip which adds a card to your computer and gets input through DV cable.
Not sure how practical this would be for you but it works for me...to the point now where even the AV techs at my work get me to do any video editing at home FOR THEM!!!
