Hi all!

Thanks to Steve! aka you know who!!!

OK well shock not completely out of the system yet, but reporting that my children, bless them are superstars!! Son smelt the smoke saw the Ducati on fire, opened the garage doors, alerted the authorities, got his sister out of bed, ran around the neighbours and told them to get out as the explosions sort of were taking place and jets of flames roared from the garage, according to the neighbour, he even at some point got the small fire extinguisher out of the kitchen to try and save the bike (oh yes, he has been well trained on the love of Ducati's).

Daughter rang me in work, Mother totally useless can't actually remember if she said "mum, the house is on fire" or "mum, the ducati is on fire" anyway, mother drove like a lunatic home, unfortuntately, my route home meant, I could see the plume of smoke coming from the house, not good doing erm ok won't confess at doing certain speeds, will confess my boss who was trying to follow said I was doing .. and you were still pulling away - erm - yes!.

Anyway, upshot is, house is not habitable (ok, have been renting the big house for 5 plus years now anyway) bike is, well as a friend put it "christ, it looks like a bloody monster, can I make it into a water feature?" charming!!!

Currently spending 2nd night at my neighbours (don't want to sleep in a hotel room thanks - excellent insurance company) yes, rather pickled at the mo (oh christ not again?), my monsters are with their father and I well, shall keep you updated as and when I have internet access, would have been nice to have shown off the beast, but it would seem this particular 750 monster did not want to be seen out and on display with this blonde! :o)

xx

Bloody hell, glad you are all OK and that is the main thing, its good that the insurance are looking after you.

Hope all goes well with getting everything better again !

Could have been worse...but not much!!!
Everyone always says at least no one got hurt, and it is a fact that that is the most important thing.
Everything else will be replaced/repair in due time.
At times like this is when you see the better side of human nature.
Keep us posted and I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and help volunteered from here.;)

it won,t make it seem much better for you i know, but thank god the kids are ok, and you can get another bike, this too shall pass, take care..ted

S**t thats not good  ! kids sound like stars ..having the presence of mind to get out ! sorry about the bike ..but like wots been said here material things can be replaced in time ...cold comfort i know ..but atleast evryone is alive and well ...keep ur chin up

bl**dy hell DG thats awful

the main thing is that you and the kids are ok though - as said before, everything else can be sorted out in time

oh.my.god!! thats bloody awful! To echo everyone else at least you and the kids are ok - well done them for being so responsible and acting so well!

Gutted (no pun intended) for you DG.
All safe and sound is good.
Hopefully you'll not lose too much riding weather time (it being bloody cold an all) and get back on raod in time for good weather.
Also.....any building work hopefully can be going on with no rain off days.....

How terrible for you! But as others have said, at least no-one was hurt and that is the most important thing.

Bad news indeed. Good news is you will find lots of help and also how kind people can be. Our local chip shop burned out several years ago and the united response to help them out was quite inspiring, from lending shoes and clothing, to digging out the rubbish, to feeding the kids too. Chin up, it'll be but a distant memory soon.

Just echoing everyone elses thoughts....

Hope things move quickly and the house gets sorted....

Sounds like the kids did a great job.... All credit to them.... and you.

Definately contender for @@@@ty luck story of 2008!!

I can only repeat what others have said, DG. Shame about the bike, house and all but family is OK and well done the kids, eh?

Things'll get sorted, see you on the road soon.

Really bad news to read, seeing a house burning is one of the worst things I have ever seen but when it's your own it must be heartbreaking:eek: Hopefully some good will come out of it though it's difficult to see what early on. Keep us posted on progress back to normal. I hope it goes well and hopefully we'll see you around on a better Ducati:)

Thanks everyone - it really is just not knowing what to do next as there is so much to do, but it is also dependent on other people. Just cannot believe my luck the last year for those who know me.

I have to say my place of work has been brilliant, as have my neighbours and friends, and thanks for all your kinds words and support.

Will keep you posted

Glad all are ok!!! What the hell caused the fire?

I can only repeat the same as everyone else who has posted, A mate of mine in Aberdeenshire had a lucky escape 3 weeks ago, The central heating boiler caught fire at 7am in the morning and lucky for them the smoke and fire alarms did their job and everyone got out safe and the fire service arrived and did their bit and the insurance people were on the case that day, Boiler room completely gutted and rest of house smoke and water damage,
Also had personal experiance one night a few years back my father arrived home the worse for wear and put the chip pan on and then sat down and fell asleep and we did not have alarms then, I heard this almighty bang and ran through and there he was lying in the chair sleeping and the flames were shooting out of the kitchen, Pulled him out while rest of family were doing the 999 bit, We all got out ok, So trust me and everyone else who has posted once its all sorted and you get your new bike your life will get back to normal, But its an experiance none of us will ever want to go through again, And if anyone on here is reading this and you dont have smoke or fire alarms then get out and purchase them NOW.

Exactly - smoke alarms!

I don't believe in our case they went off, but one of the firemen told me, he has one in EVERY room of his home including the garage - in some areas the fire brigade will come out and assess your home and even fit them for free.

Also crucial to plan your escape route, I had a lump hammer by my bed for emergency access out of a window, but time and time again, this is what they tell you to do, plan ahead.

The best choice for alarms is the 240volt ones and are all linked up just like your 13amp socket ring main, If one gets triggered they all go off at the same time, Press the test button on any one and they all go off, Would recommend ear muffs when testing though because they are LOUD

I'll let you know what caused the fire when I have it in writing!

However, as stated by son to investigator the only flames he saw were coming from the bike!
