Conspiracy theories, who starts them and why?

A few observations. This tends to happen more in the western world, the same way veganism, the same way depression, the same way food allergies etc etc

I doubt a starving kid in bangladesh refuses food because he might be lactose intolerant, is loaded up with anti depressants because things are not going their way or worried if they are gender nuetral.

So my theory is, it's because we in the west/"civilised" world, have the time, money and technology, to overthink

Conspiracy theories, the wilder ones, are started by the Establishment.

They do this so that when intrepid, hard-working citizen-journalists uncover real conspiracies, the general public will dismiss such reports, categorizing them along with the tinfoil stuff manufactured by those crafty elites.

The CIA kicked all this off. They in fact invented the term "conspiracy theory" as protective colouration in order to disguise their nefarious activities.

I learned all this from a radio broadcast which I happened to receive through one of my dental fillings, one sunny Saturday afternoon.

You know you can get a special "hat" to aid with that?

I don’t believe the first line but it is very plausible so is the basis of a good CT.

I do believe the 3rd para. I can imagine the CIA doing that.

I don’t believe the last bit coz your fillings predate 4G which is the very least would be necessary to stream a radio broadcast.

People have been picking up radio broadcasts in their fillings since the 60s.

I blame the CIA.

Your first line will please the Establishment no end.

I remember as the internet was taking off but still in the dial up days, the ability to move into digital surveliance was seen as a blessing in disguise. Many of the conspiracy theorist websites were, as they are now, created by the security services like hunny traps.

As loz mentions, some of the biggest conspiracists are indeed Psyops operatives and phsycologists within these conspiracists sites and forums. Now, most of these are done for security services and intelligence services.

As the internet took off, the traditional conspiracy theories of the masons, Jews, Illuminati and newer groups such as the open forum, Bilderberg group, Damos etc came on board.

Then you have a rabbit hole of full on tin hattery to go down where conspiracies are applied to everything.

Spot on, they have specialized groups to flood the net with more rabbit holes as the net is so much harder to silence so they use these tactics to try and make more shit to decipher, then there is plausible deniability so everyone's ass is covered, pick the bones out of that one Alice, it's one big fucked up confused mess, it is so hard now to get reliable sources, common sense as to what to believe in comes into play but where the fuck is that now, Chaos!!

Hmm, I need to re-assess my initial response, it was too shallow, not enough thought applied. Yes, the ‘Establishment’ ie the State, has done and does continue to do it. Mostly against other States. Yes I believe many are started by Russia and China and N.Korea and probably a whole host of other places, directed against the West in order to destabilise (and they’re doing a bloody good job). If that’s the case the converse must be true ie the West is reciprocating in order to destabilise regimes it doesn’t like.

Perhaps we can look at one in particular as an example.

QAnon. (Me typing that has probably been picked up by the NSA now 😕).

I can imagine the Russians starting that to destabilise the West but seriously, a bunch of Satan worshipping paedophiles whom Trump was sent to wipe out. Where’s the plausibility in that?

You also within the last 10 years, you have to add social media into the mix where some try to become "social influencers" but within thier own conspiracy communities where they try and elevate themselves as some form of famous or well known mini celebrity or chief conspirator.

You mentioned Q wcp, the symbol of q anon is

Q Anon deep state conspiracy concept formed from flames against US flag - License, download or print for £6.50 | Photos | Picfair

It will send some crazy to know their sky box symbol is

You're on target with 'former' and current Communist countries destabilising the west...but not really through starting conspiracy theories. You might be surprised at how. Look up Yuri Bezmanov (KGB defector) and what he spoke about in the 80's - demorilisation / destabilistion / crisis / normalisation; the steps to break down society - then see how much has come true so far. Also, this touches on it.

You probably see this as a conspiracy theory in itself. Only the proof is that we can see what Bezmanov said would happen, is happening. It'll give you an insight into todays major topics too, and why we are seeing them. Some conspiracy theories, turn into actual events.

Given that plenty of them come true...who gets to say what is a theory?

Are you calling me a Bangladeshi now! lol..
Yes i’m a Well known follower of Depression, I don’t believe in Anti D’s ( took them for years and went cold turkey to get off them ) i believe in trying to deal with the problems rather than taking nasty smarties, I am however a veggie have been since a kid..

Mind you you might have a point tbh for i’m often ( or have been) found wearing the equivalent of a turban wrapped around my poorly head after shall we say, many scrapes and stays in hospital ..

X luv ya Noobs in a manly way obv ..

I'm having trouble with imagining you with a west ham t towel shirt, icf calling card and a turban noods 🙃

It was more this part noods ...."So my theory is, it's because we in the west/"civilised" world, have the time, money and technology, to overthink"

As to conspiracists, some seem to have fallen through lifes cracks and are desperatly looking for something to stabilise/make sense of thier own life and seek to belong to something. You see the same thing with country line drug dealers looking for kids to do the dirty business, manipulating them into thinking this is the real world and the only option available to them. There is a strong sense of belonging within conspiracy theorists to other conspiracy theorists, even though by their very nature most will not even trust others within the conspiracy circle.

Two authors make a reasonable read , a chap called Jesse Walker and his five kinds of conspiracy and Michael Barkun with his three classifications of conspiracy

Take a walk on the wild side and lets say, using the james bond analogy, there are subgroups of group countrollling and manipulating everything (interestingly in quantum of solace from 2008, the groups symbol was Q) and they all come together to form Spectre. A parent group to many sub groups who control every major and minor decisions of our lives and control countries, companies and peoples lives. Let's say it's all true, then what?

Blimey...
I agree totally cause we all know i’m not actually depressed at all... Just totally nuts!

There’s more than one slate missing from my roof, and that’s fact, no conspiracy there... X

They are started by bored "IT types" with high speed access to military grade networks and computing power.
Typically a long way from home, stressed and bored. Consider themselves outside of normal society, probably a loner with anti establishment tendencies. Possibly a Bruce Wayne / Clarke Kent type psychosis that was never sorted as a child.
May have been overlooked for promotion, unhappy with their lack of luck with the ladies, making up for it in other compulsive behaviour like exercise.
They normally post in short staccato type sentences, but will probably post something longer in this thread then revert to form.

Question : How can we be certain that it wasn't the CIA that assassinated JFK ?

Answer : Because it wasn't botched !
