Don’t want to spoil a potentially serious thread, thread

Out of interest, do you mean as few Google apps as possible, or have you gone ‘pure’ Android - no play store etc etc.
Early days as yet. All I've done so far is deselect Chrome for Duck Duck go as the default server (ecause it's already on the phone, but I might download something else if I don't get on with it) and swapped out Gemini for standard SMS messaging. Though when I open the messaging app it still says Google at the top of the screen, which is annoying. Maybe I have to get rid of playstore to stop this? I don't know.
Obviously being android it basically is a Google platform but I can deactivate play store. I've never used it on my existing phone.
I'll be using Proton for my emails rather than Gmail. I wasn't planning to uninstall the Google apps just turn them off and replace them with alterntives. But if I have to unistall, so be it. I'm just making sure I'm happy with the alternatives before I do.
I just detest all the Google prompts and butting in whenever I try to do anything. Plus they spy, make political judgements on your content and sell your info. If deactivation doesn't stop the pop-ups and prompts I will uninstall all Google apps.
I don't really know what I'm doing to I'm taking it steady.

Thinking of doing something similar, let us know how you get on.

I’ve not looked at ‘cleaning’ an Android phone (or tablet) for a while, but ‘cyanogen mod’ (think that’s how it’s spelt) used to be a good way to go.
However you decide to go XDA developers site is a good source of info.

I too would be interested in how it goes, and good luck. 👍

It’s Alphabet, they own the OS, they own the apps they own you, regardless of what you do or try or think.

Just go Apple, at least you know they own you and don’t lull you a false sense of freedom. And at least it always works and you don’t get hacked.

I did think about Apple. They drive me mad because I can't work the things but I guess you adjust and get used to them. But I wanted a large screen and the best quality camera I could find for what I was prepared to pay. Seems trivial but those are the important factors for me and the limited amount of stuff I do on my phone. That meant Samsung really. Google Pixel cameras have the edge but, well, they're Google.
For what I paid I'd never have got the camera quality or screen size from an i-phone. I'd have had to pay twice what I did. Then there's battery life and software back-up. The Samsung will be supported for six years. Only Google Pixel beat that with seven years. I'd be replacing an i-phone a lot sooner.

I don't like the way tax payer's money is used full stop.
Very very little of what is collected is spent on anything worthwhile and much of what it is spent on is positively destructive to our culture, our society, our security, our democracy and our prosperity.

Would it be possible to change the font of the forum to something similar, but with the capitalised I having the bars across the top and bottom?
It would totally eradicate the Al/Al anomaly, whatwith there being a forum member called Al and Artificial Intelligence also known as AI.
Don’t you think whatwith ought to be a word?

Then how could we take the piss out of Al and also AI 🤔

Serif font will take care of it.

You’re all stick in the muds and for that I applaud and appreciate you.

I imagined it would take but a moment of someone in the knows time to sort it, didn't mean to invoke a demikerfuffle.

It’s all Al’s fault.

Al is a menace, don't get taken in.

Welcome, lovely collection. Any chance of some pictures please?
Here ya go!

On a separate note, do we think I ought to take down my birthday balloons?

They’ve been up six weeks, I was waiting ‘til they started falling or deflating, but neither of those things have come about.

Six weeks!!

Did you blow them up while having a liddle schmoke…that might explain while they’re still high - helium wouldn’t last that long

😁

I blew thirty up with my compressor and my friend blew thirty up with her mouth, Joanne cut and tied the ribbons and then I stuck them up with ‘glue dots’, I might find my spud gun out (or a dart on a garden cane) and pop them from the settee.
They’re very sturdy balloons, probably not very eco friendly.
