My Energy supplier has gone bust.

I've only just switched my energy supplier ⚡ 🔥 and got a mail today to say they have went t*ts up.

I've only made one payment so far. I can see my bills getting hiked up now that wholesale prices have gone through the roof. Apparently Ofgem will appoint a new suppler for me. 🤨 This isn't going to go well. 😟. I might leave the heating off this winter. 🥶

DID you use them through look after my bills..... be alright anyway.

Ive been with them for several months fortunately through look after my bills.

Ive read my meter, took photos of all the readings I sent them, my account number and where my account is at... just for when its sorted out with a new provider.

I did a Topcashback energy comparison. They came out better than my current supplier as my fixed deal was coming to an end. I switch at the end of every deal before I go onto a variable or less favourable tarriff.

I'm interested to see where I end up and on what tarriff. 🤔

its difficult because I know the account is in credit, I don't want to pay them another direct debit..... plus I bet the deal the powers that be swap me to won't be the best!

My direct debit is due on Monday. I'll keep it in credit as the mail says anycredit will be passed over and I don't want to be in debt.

I was going to change in October before winter but feck knows what will happen 🤔

One reason I haven’t changed for a while now is the smart meters aren’t compatible across suppliers so you lose the tracking features if you switch, and it isn’t clear which meters work with which companies - I do find it handy to have hourly and daily readings to moan at Mrs Ex when she’s over 🤷‍♂️

Mine went tits up a few days ago Peoples Energy, I have been informed that my new supplier is British Gas, I am with Look After My Bills and they say to stay put until the change over is sorted and then they will look to move me to a better supplier, I expect to be paying through the nose for a while .

I am told that all NEW smart meters are now compatible with all suppliers.

Cancelled the direct debit this morning, sent a email to look after my bills as they have turned off their telephone, outlining what I want to do. I won't expect the appointed company to provide a particularly good product or service so ill change as soon as practicable.

I do agree these are not energy providers, merely go betweens cutting out a profit for which I will be paying so who cares about them really, I don't!
Gas electric water should be state owned for a proper quality service for the people of the country, not for profit making few. Any money made on the running of the state owned companies should be plowed back in to making it an even better service, not pacifying shareholders!

I agree with that but how would one prevent the inefficiencies that would undoubtedly creep in as they do (did) in all State run enterprises?

Certainly, IMO, utilities such as energy, water, trains, buses should be State run, they manage to do it in other European States.

When numerous companies like BT the water board went private, did they sack everyone and a complete new group of workers managers arrive? No... I don't see why It couldn't be run properly like a big profit making company, you know avoid paying tax, poor wages, large bonuses for the few.... ;)

Errr...ummm.... I've locked into a very low energy price until the middle of next Summer. :giggle::whistle::whistle::coffee:

My provider went the other day, so waiting to see where I end up.

However, I suspect that even after you are with your 'new' Ofgem allocated provider, presumably on a normal tariff, and any credit transferred, there won't be any good deals available anywhere...

I see major suppliers are now saying that they can't now source gas below the current price cap so they are losing money with every customer (yeah, right....) but none will provide comment on any hedging or previous agreed supply pricing.

Gubment say gas price increase is temporary, and expected to fall next spring, so the suppliers should pass that saving on fairly sharpish I should think.........that's what normally happens, isn't it?.

If not then perhaps a 'no exit fee' plan may be a sensible option in the short term.

I also see there is a Martin Lewis money programme on this fiasco on ITV tonight at 8:30pm.

Maybe he will tell us Fischer is the way forward after all.......

According to the media, all SMETS1 smart meters, the ones that go dumb if you switch suppliers, should have their software upgraded remotely by the end of 2021 to make them smart again so they work across all providers (or whoever is left....). If your SMETS1 meter can't be upgraded then your supplier will organise a replacement with a SMETS2 meter, the current new std, which is consistently smart all the time.

As far as I can see you can't simply look at your SMETS1 meter screen and see if it's been reprogrammed or not, you need to contact your supplier, if you still have one....

im lucky I don't use gas.... and have a full oil tank for water /heating.
I just need electric........
Unfortunately, or fortunately, for you, apparently about 43% of UK electricity is generated using gas, of which 47% is imported.

What's the betting that the rise in electricity prices bears no resemblance to that ratio....

Symbio have just called ..... long story short "my refund of overpayments hasn't been made for technical reasons in accounts".
Two weeks ago I was assured all the technical reasons (undisclosed) were sorted.

I wonder what technical reasons they are?:mad:
