What have you done on your bike today?

When I had my ready meals factory we had a packing machine that gas-flushed and lidded the packs. Stopped working properly; had the engineer out; flew one in from the manufacturer in Holland …after about 5 days stripping it down and rebuilding it several times it turned out to be a tiny piece of the clear kidding film stuck in a pipe that pulled the air out of the packs. It was acting like a valve. It’d been tested a few times but from the wrong direction so it seems clear. Only when it was tested from the other direction that they found the problem.
There you go something so small can really fuck up your day, i'm so sure it's something stupid!!:)

How long were you in that traffic jam?

Enfield 500.Today I have been mostly struggling and swearing with an equal and continuous measure. I collected my rear wheel with it's new tyre this afternoon and began installation by 3pm. I knew it would be a tight fit and this started with the long struggle to get the wheel and cush drive in place. No matter what I tried it would just not go back. I had removed the caliper and bracket to get the wheel out but to get the wheel back in I had to remove the disc and ABS ring from the opposite side. To get the caliper and bracket back on I had to remove the pads. This does not cover all the times the left side spacer fell out any time anything caused even the slightest vibration. AND the Caliperbracket has to be removed to get access to get the spacer back in place. How is it that here is enough space to let it fall out but not enough space to get it back in again??? The wheel is back on now and it only took three and a half hours. Still to do is : refit the pads, refit the mudguard and do a once round on all bolts and fittings for both wheels. Absolutely no comfort was gained from the advice that the models with drum brakes are a doddle to remove. The disc brake models not so much.

The 500 is so basic a bike but it does come with some strange and unnecessary faults, to be honest it's like early Ducati design!!
When i got my 900ie it drove me to despair at times with me repeating the word WHY, fucking Italians, it's almost like they are doing it on purpose!!

Today i had a delivery of another fuel tank (a used one) for the Enfield as the other one is fucking scrap!! Anyway i went down to the batcave and started to swap a few bits from the old one to the used fuel tank.:)
I put the injector back on after a good clean then the other bits, pushed the start button and nothing, shit i forgot to plug the injector into the loom.
Try again, she starts up but there seems to be a fuel starvation problem so i pulled the tank off and took the fuel pump out of the tank. It was all clean as a whistle so not the tank but gave the pump and rest of it a good clean then buttoned it up, get the injector out and gave that another clean then back in.
So ignition on press the start button and it fired up better than the first time but still a fuel starvation issue, all i can think it to be is the injector!!🙃
This bike is cursed, out of all the bikes i've owned i have never had such a problem child!! The other thing is i look at the Enfield and the 996 and the bike that is meant to be unreliable isn't (996) and the one that's meant to be reliable just isn't.🤪
The other thing is the Enfield just fights me all the time, a simple job on it turns into Homer's Odyssey, i thought the 900ie was a pain in the arse but it was a doddle compared to the Enfield!!
I'm pretty sure the problem is something silly and will have another look tomorrow, aaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!😤

I’m advised that Enfield dealers now have large bins where you can leave hammers and the like anonymously under some form of workshop violence amnesty programme.

Possibly something worth thinking about?

Have you replaced the inline fuel filter with a clean new one?
Does petrol flow freely through the petrol tap? Is it on reserve? (if it has one)
Is the gauze that goes into the fuel tank spick and span ?
Did you use new petrol and not the dross out of the first tank filtered through a sock?
Is the gasket on the petrol tap properly pierced, so the holes line up?

All things you may have considered, but I’ve tried remote viewing it and this is what I came up with… use your third eye, its there, but you have to activate it…

(I might be a bit stoned).

The filter on the inside is nice and clean, it's fuel injected so no fuel tap, the tank is as clean as a clean thing!!(y) Fresh fuel as i topped the 996 up and syphoned fuel out of that and the fuel pump works fine as i tested it and it has quite a kick, imo it has to be a gummed up injector, i'm going to pick some injector cleaner from Halfords tomorrow. I would rather put it in an ultrasonic cleaner but don't have one!!:)

Put me right off ever wanting to own one that is for sure!

Well i have just been online digging and it turns out there are some right niggles they don't like so i will give them a try tomorrow, if i still have it i would love do a carb conversion but i is skint innit!! Carb conversion would be the cure that ails ya imo.🤷‍♂️

Today i was going to have another look at the Enfield and i did and then got my gear on and went out for a blast on the 996!! :) I hate going out on Saturdays but the suns out and it's dry with a forecast of rain for Sun-Monday.
The tax runs out on Monday for the 996 so today will be the last ride for a bit as i'm putting it on sorn, i'll have a go at the Enfield Sunday as i need to get it sorted before winter moves in.🥶
I went out to Salisbury as it's market day and got myself a nice tasty burger😋, loads of bikes out today probably doing the same as me and making the most of it.🏍️ I swear the 996 has a hole in fuel tank as i've put twenty quid in it and done 98 miles, can't work that out as i haven't been giving it the beans today because of sketchy road conditions!!
Anyway i headed back home via Tesco for shopping then Halfords to collect some injector cleaner i orderd yesterday to give the Enfield injector a good clean.🤷‍♂️
I also hit a freshly killed squirrel that when i got home noticed some of it on the oil cooler cover!!

You syphoned some out for your Henfield.
Not alot, the low fuel light wasn't lit up untill about 10 miles so there was still enough fuel in there before i topped up!! 🤷‍♂️ I've never gone through fuel that quick before while riding in a sane manner, riding like a maniac i get it!! After having a look at spec a 996 does apparently 51 MPG, work that out!!

Is there per chance a hammer sized hole in it somewhere... Asking for a friend obviously 👀

Today after more internet bollox did a few things on the Enfield and then went for a ride round the block and a complete waste of time!! It's still fucked and that's it for me i'm done!!
Well that's me off the road, 996 on SORN so nothing to ride, i can't afford to get the Enfield put in a shop as we do have an Enfield garage not far from me.
I can't afford to tax the 996 again and the weather is fucking shit.
It's funny how you do things for a reason and it has the opposite effect.
Loads of interest on my stuff on ebay but nobody is buying!!

Cover the plate on the 996 - no Guinness will catch you (y) :ROFLMAO:

Wayne, what would be the point of taking your bike to a garage? They will only do what you've done (or are capable of doing) and charge you for the privilege.
Now go back down to your garage in a different frame of mind and get it sorted.
I know, i have no fucking money the bike i bought to save me money has ended up costing me way more money!! 🤷‍♂️
Yesterday i came across an article about the Enfield 500 Bullet with a guy who has the same problem more or less, now i did say how i connected the side stand kill switch.
Apparently why people disconect this is it can kick in thus causing stalling and intermitant cut out, so i unplugged it and it seemed to run ok in the garage. No same old shit.

That was a problem with the Supersport 939 - had it happen a couple of times, both through fast bends, the engine cutting out.
