LAPHROAIG i used to drink that(don't do spirits anymore) but my absolute favorite is Glenmorangie, i went past the distillery at Tain with the then girlfriend i was with who lived at Bonner Bridge, she wouldn't let me do the Distillery tour as she said i know what your like, :ROFLMAO: .

I've always jumped into jd having found whiskey just too sharp and not mellow enough, so I will be watching this thread for the mellow reccomendations

Glenmorangie is smooth with a nice taste(i think so, that's why a drank it), it's a single malt none of that blended stuff like Bells:sick: but i guess it comes down to taste(y).

The best blended whisky IMO is Johnnie Walker Black Label. Similar price to a lot of malts but it is exceptionally smooth with just the fainest hint of peat. Very good starting point for whisky virgins, whereas some blends can put you off for life.

Highland Park is easy to drink, or the peaty onrs are sometimes less sharp than speyside
Excellent all-round malt. I find most Speysides too sweet and fruity with too much sherry cask coming through, like Christmas cake. Glen Kieth is a good one though. Less sweet than most and subtler but very smooth.

Shame I don't drink anymore. Or just as well, depending how you look at it..

Irish whiskey is mellower than Scotch due to being triple distilled so I'd start with that if I were you. Add a small splash of water too, it takes the edge off and releases more of the flavours. The next rule of thumb is the longer the whiskey/whisky has been matured the smoother it will be. Stay away from Islay until youve developed a taste for it, they are quite extreme in their peaty flavouring.

Bourbon once distilled
Scotch twice
Irish thrice.

Tonight I’m on this.

oh, and playing around with the camera settings in my phone 😄
Never get into an argument with a scot about Irish whiskey being the best and they invented the stuff, i did once and fucking hell we went to a boozer near us that done over 20 odd whiskeys at the time Irish and Scottish and of course we tried them all, to this day i can't remember what the outcome was (Irish is the best and they invented it, end of) but fucking hell we had a great time!! (y) o_O

Can heartily recommend Eagle Rare for the bourbon drinkers among us.

if you ever enjoyed glenfiddich Rich oak you will love this shit.
