1994 Monster M600

I got the engine (and belt covers, exhaust clamps and collets) back from the blasters today and it looks quite good in black etch primer.

Silver engine paint and a Stainless Bolt Kit will be purchased sometime next week.
 
Looks good: word of advice - careful with your paint choice. I went through a similar process on an 851 engine recently, used PJ1 satin black on top of acid etch primer, and even baked those parts I could fit into an oven. Petrol still lifted the paint on the slightest splash.

Have to agree when I painted my engine finished it with a clear coat VHT that was oil and petrol resistant.

The engine paint arrived a few days ago, but it makes a really dull picture.

The clear lens LED tail-light that I got a few years back doesn't sit right; it's about half an inch proud of the tail-piece and looks naff. I'm hoping to be able to modify the original tail-light unit to use the LEDs. It looks like I'll need to remove 2 of the LEDs to accommodate the lens screws, but I don't see any major issues.
 
LED Tail-light Conversion

It's been too cold these last few weeks for engine painting or exhaust polishing, so I've been focusing on something I can do indoors.

The LED tail-light has a flat back whereas the standard one is more open, meaning the it doesn't sit right, so converting the original one seemed the obvious solution.

The PC board that the LED cluster is mounted on, has 2 mounts about an inch in on either side but the standard lens mounts are much nearer the outer edge.

In order to mount the board using the lens mounts, I needed remove the middle LED from the outermost column and, in order to maintain a uniform illumination pattern replace it close to the original mounting holes. I drilled two 2mm holes to pass the LED terminals through and bridged the circuit with short wires.

I drilled new mounting holes.....

.....before modifying the light body by removing the ends of the reflector to allow the board to fit.

The holes were taped up on the inside and filled with silicon from the outside. The original contacts were removed and the holes also filled with silicon too stop water getting in.

It seems to work rather well

I'm now thinking about doing something similar with the indicators.
 
Yes I'd like some led boards in my stock smoked indicators

I seem to remember that someone over on docuk used to make them for the 916 which is the same
