How Far Is Too Far?

I've got this mad idea to organise a charity ride from the top of Ireland to the South, in one day 😯. It's not the most direct route as it takes in some of the Wild Atlantic Way so it's 1000km, 14Hrs, according to Calimoto - doable or too far? What's everyone think?

In proper speeds that's around 620 miles.

In a small group of very close friends who are all decent riders, it's doable but it's the time frame more than the mileage that would not see me reccomend it as safe to do.

Personally whether I was on my own or in a very small group, it would be more fun to do it over two days. If you wanted to raise shed loads, do the same route with a v good social and msm media campaign by riding a C90 :D

When we rode down to Bellaria in Italy to our freinds and for Misano Motogp in 2015 we had to cover nearly 600 miles across France from Calais to somewhere to the Hotel we booked, don't ask me where i don't know, the wife's dad was a long distance hgv driver so he knew France well so he plotted the route.
It can be done, i loved it but my son on the back of the 900ie was a different matter:rolleyes::ROFLMAO:, but fair play to him he just got on with it, it's a fair whack of miles, i say go for it Paul, go on you know you want to(y).

You don't know the West of Ireland 👀😝

That's why I mentioned the mileage wasn't the issue but time to do it
We gave our selves 3 days to get to Italy and lets say we where ambitious, there where so many amazing sight's but we couldn't stop to long, we should of gave our selves 4 day's, coming back we had to get to St-Malo as the wife's father had booked from there for the ferry for a reason only he knew.

I have done 1100 km in approx 14 hours many times as this was the distance from my home in NL to my favourite resort in Austria, this was in a comfortable car, depending on traffic and road/weather conditions, the journey time was between 10 and 19 hours, including breaks, I would not entertain it on a bike but sure it is possible if needed on a comfy bike like yours, possible yes, fun? Not so sure.

On a bike, no, that would put me off. 300 miles tops on non motorway, otherwise what's the point? I know you said it's for charidee, but does it have to be a challenge...can't it be enjoyable too?

I've done 1000+ mile days in cars across europe etc, but it wasn't enjoyable and just a means to get it done as soon as possible.

Surely could raise at least as much if not more by splitting it over more than one day?

That's about 6 tanks and a set of tyres on my SDR 🤷‍♂️😝
You’d better start saving boyo as you will be taking part 😁
You don't know the West of Ireland 👀😝
Very true, this is the issue. No MWays, avg speed 60kmh. There’s a shorter route of 750km but it’s through Roscommon and the Midlands ffs. Well dodgy.
He did say his wish list included ireland 👀 hes a demon at the navigation 😝
@PerryL will defo be following me not following his SatNav or leading.

The thing is it’s a challenge but 14hrs or so on the road is a long long day and potentially dangerous through tiredness. It would be in the summer though so it will be daylight all the way.

Has anyone here done the John O’Scrotes to LandsEnd on a £300 hack run that happens every year? I forget what it’s called.

Can't we just organise a 4 day bender and get sponsored to see who lasts the whole thing 👀 I know @Dox will be all over that trip 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you but one mamil did it in a little over 19hrs, albeit the shortest most direct route. I can’t have a mamil doing it quicker than a biker.
