A few notes…
About 2 months ago I sold my DVT, which I had done many mods too, some cheap, some not, all worthwhile. Anyhow, I picked up my 'new to me' 1100s last wednesday morning and have now done around 1500km. So enough use to make a couple of comments…
This bike has taken a while to get used to. It does handle pretty good, rides nice on the Ohlins and feels good in a corner, not that I have had a chance to push it. But the 8yr later DVT is sooooo much better in so many ways it is remarkable. To the point where I feel like I have been spoiled for owning anything older now. The biggest difference is the motor, this old air cooled fulla feels very clunky by comparison. I am hopeful that a TBS and TPS reset will make a big difference to how smoothly it can run down low and also cure the lack of idle when cold that it currently has. Also, it feels like 1st gear is too tall as was the DVT.
The seat has not been modified and boy does it need to be! It sucks! Worth noting that the DVT seat was not ideal either but for different reasons. This is the thing you should spend the most care and money on. Comfort. Also the passenger ergonomics need a bit of adjustment, but I need to sort the rider seat first. Someone has fitted some sport bike pegs which is dumb on a Multi. Lucky I have a pair of good adventure pegs that should fit…
The heated grips work fine but will get my patented "tennis raquet tape" treatment which is a big improvement imo.
I didn't realise the rider seat does not lift off like other machines, it is bolted to the weird tankseat unit and is no small job to remove it seems…in some way not much different than the DVT where tank removal was necessary to check the air filter.
It seems like the light leaves a lot to be desired but a couple of daytime running lights may help that scenario out a bit and might also help out with the overall ugliness…
Really missing my cruise control, man that is good juju on a decent ride!
Other unnecessary things I may do might be, exhaust, gutting the cat box and fitting a big booming side slung can. I have ideas about fitting a generous tool box under the seat unit where the muffler is now…
Fitting a usb outlet in the side locker. Looks like there was one there before…
Fitting some handguards, if I can get something suitable.
I will probably do all this and then sell it, like a dumbarse!
