Fuel tank leak

Hi
noticed i had a fuel leak on my bike(916)(small match of petrol on floor). Took tank off bike it looks to be leaking on the front mounting bracket where the 2off M5 screws fasten it to the tank. is this a common thing ? just put some sealant on the threads ? and yes i had just filled it up!

I have a 996 that doesn't leak and i would say as you said put some sealant on the threads should do the job as you say it's not pissing out so yes sealant. (y)

this is how I fixed it...........
I think it was leaking around the captive nuts that hold the bracket on at the front of the tank,I dont think this area is prone to rust? made a gasket out of thin rubber matting and used Loctite 518 on the threads of the bolts and on the gaskets and so far it hasnt leaked. So far!
 
Did make sure the rubber is petrol and ethanol resistant? Otherwise it will just leak again

I made a new fuel cap gasket for my old Guzzi. IIRC the 'rubber', claimed to be fuel resistant, was Nitrile?

The first time I stopped to fill up, the gasket had turned into sticky snot - bear in mind this gasket is only in contact with fumes and occasional splashing!

I made another using Viton and it's still going strong some years later.

Unless the OP's tank is rotten then a repair in that area can't be too complicated and he could get away without (expensive) paint as it's underneath and can't be seen.

The front bracket can be easily bent in even a small impact, mine bent when the bike worked it's way off the paddock stand when I was oiling the chain and it fell onto my car - bracket straightened out OK but it could easily have stressed/cracked the mounting hole.

I'd be removing and stripping down the tank for a better view of the inside and, unless it has gone rotten, be repairing it.
