Brit Couple on RTW Motorcycle Adventure Detained in Iran
They were only meant to be staying in Iran for a few days, although are now being detained due to ‘unspecified’ security charges
I have worked for loads of Iranians over the years I'd imagine most fled in the late 70s as the bat shit crazy Muslims took hold always found them to be very nice to deal withIf they wanted to meet a load of Iranians, a trip to London would have fullfilled that wish.
Yep I've met a few through the shooting world - hunting is quite a big thing in Iran apparently. They were all extremely nice and the most civilised and hospitable people, well educated and pro-western, who wore their religion very lightly. Most Iranians hate the Tehran regime which isn't in any way representitive of the general Iranian population, which is about the youngest and most liberal in the middle east.I have worked for loads of Iranians over the years I'd imagine most fled in the late 70s as the bat shit crazy Muslims took hold always found them to be very nice to deal with![]()
Could have learned from watching Itchy Boots videos on how to traverse through that region. One must wonder how she manages. Not having a US or UK passport probably helps. The couple have now been charged with espionage
It is amusing to know that when anything goes wrong in the typical Iranian household their go to nation of blame is the 'British'Yep I've met a few through the shooting world - hunting is quite a big thing in Iran apparently. If they ever manage to get rid of the mullahs and turn their country into a secular democracy, Iran would be a wonderful place to visit. But while the crazies are in charge I wouldn't go near the place.

Yes, that was you - personal innitWhen I was seeing a Scottish woman, every time something was wrong it was a Brit's (well...English man's) fault![]()
While skiing this year we went for a few beers after a day on the slopes xmas eve.. Had a good laugh with my family when a Scottish lady heard the Irish accent she came over and asked us to boo her English husband as he came thru the doorsWhen I was seeing a Scottish woman, every time something was wrong it was a Brit's (well...English man's) fault![]()

I was in the bar of the Rodel hotel on the Isle of Harris years ago when a group of bikers from Glasgow came in. One turned to speak to me at the bar and when I answered and he heard my voice he grimmaced and turned his back on me. Explaining himself he said, sorry, when I saw your shirt (a green and white T shirt) I thought you were Irish. His mate chimed in and said, is he English? What's he doing here? While skiing this year we went for a few beers after a day on the slopes xmas eve.. Tribalism, like the north Welsh stereotypes, everywhere unfortunatelyI was in the bar of the Rodel hotel on the Isle of Harris years ago when a group of bikers from Glasgow came in. A local lad I was with (a ghillie I'd got friendly with who I'd been helping out on his lobster potting boat) said they were wankers, and when they came into the Anchor at Leverburgh the other locals cold-shouldered them and switched to speaking gaelic, but they made a point of speaking to me in English. They don't think much of Glaswegians in the Western isles.
This was in 2007 at the beginning of the SNP's rise and independence fevour, which I think had a lot to do with it. Had a similar reception from a couple of people in a pub in Stornoway as well. One was a very grumpy barmaid who resentfully removed the Vote Yes beer mats from the bar when she realised I was English. And the other was a little pissed up scrote who thought he was going to fight me. He was five foot nothing and stick thin. I could have picked him up in one hand and threw him across the road. In the end I didn't need to because an older woman he was with, who I think was a relation of some kind, belted him round the head and told him to mind his fecking manners.Tribalism, like the north Welsh stereotypes, everywhere unfortunatelyI don't know you from school so you're not welcome - twats everywhere
The usual bad apples, people like to gang up on a perceived common enemy, spineless GuinnesssT

Never experienced any other kind of personal anti-English prejudice in Scotland before or since. And contrary to popular myth south of the border, most Scots I've met in pubs have been very willing to buy a round.
It's those greedy Southerners that lie about their wealth who bleat about that - but in reality it's them that are the tight gits, or they just can't afford a roundAnd contrary to popular myth south of the border, most Scots I've met in pubs have been very willing to buy a round.
If I get any further south I'll be in The English channel. My modesty hardly permits me to say how generous I amIt's those greedy Southerners that lie about their wealth who bleat about that - but in reality it's them that are the tight gits, or they just can't afford a round![]()
