Hi
Back on the 749 for the first time in 6 months yesterday due to long injury lay off - just rode down to Southport but it felt like I had just past my test again and I don't mean just bad cornering and poor clutch control. Big smiles all round.
Managed to fit open clutch over winter with blue pressure plate and red collars with polished silver alloy cover... sounds (and looks) a bit loud.
On the way back noticed tyres were a bit squirrelly on the corners even when warm, mainly due to them being as bald as a slice of bacon.
Decided to go for Avon Viper Supersport on recomendation of a bloke who races at TT and Skerries. Has them on his 916 as well for the road.
Anybody got any experience of this tyre bit of an unknown entitiy to me.

never used Avon personally, i try to stick to michelin or pirelli, let us know how you get with them tho. !

I had those tyres on my 749 and I thought they were excellent in dry and wet. Got them from that place up the road from Ducati Leeds and they cost180 quid fitted.

ive never heard of Avon in major competitions like bsb wsb or moto gp, are they tried & tested in any competitions ?

Well Green, if the man who races the TT and Skerries says they are good, who are we to argue - a different breed those guys !

Got to agree there Ian, there is a lot of crap talked about tyres especially at our end of the ability spectrum.

Joey Dunlop was quicker on his 125 on tyres the width of a gnats chuffer and the tyres Mike h raced on were like hard cheese. So yep go for em if they have a racer recommendation.

yea i wasnt slating them guys, was just wondering if they had any pedigree.

Avon are good in the car world, just havnt heard of them much in biking.

Diablo's are my favourite too steve.

Thanks for the responses
MR C not sure where Barlows Trailers are but timing sounds about right.
Done research on the web and intially all lot of the mags were sceptical till they did the test and they all rated them highly.
I believe that some of these mags do need a reality check, I am not Adam Childs or Warren Pole - why can't they have normal people test stuff. I don't care if they are 0.05 seconds slower around some Asian track in red hot temperatures and 98% humidity... don't get that in Chorley.
Anyway they will be fitted today so I will give a report back as soon as possible.

Sorry Ian, if I sounded like I was having a pop at you. I was beating myself up, to me a tyre is a tyre, I don't have the ability to tell the difference between similar typres of tyres - Diablos, Power pilots etc
