13 year old tyres !!

my 996 seems to still have the original tyres on her ,having only 800 odd miles on her
they visually look fine i have never had issues with tyres going off on me before
am i unduly worrying or should i ?

Why risk it? If the rear end steps out on you at the first roundabout it could cost a lot more than a set of tyres.

rubber deterioarates so would i chance it no, couple of hundred quid gives you new rubber and peace of mind .
last thing you want is a tyre going when on the road

No brainer - ditch the old tyres and get some new ones. You dont want to find out the consequences of having old tyres on such a high performance bike the hard way!

p.s. ask Santafor a pair of new ones...

When I got my Darmah a few years ago it had original Pirelli Phantoms on it, and they were mounted on Magnesium Speedlines! Now there's a double whammy! I changed 'em eventually!
