...Not sure that it was meant for me!!! :o

...so after all this typing lark, are you gonna at least bring it down to Knickershill tomorrow so we can all see what all the fuss is about? :)

Taxes

And you are gonna take a bath on the 1098R as well!

Anyway, as long as you got the assurance in writing.......what......oh.......eh.......no?...........not to worry. i'm also pretty sure they'll not sell you short!

retail price maintenance is illegal across the EU and if a dealer choses to sell a 1098R at a discount it would be up to them, DUK cannot force them to sell at list price.

lets see a dealer try and sell at a discount and watch how many bikes he gets!!!

Price fixing is illegal but I see it every day........."we cannot tell you what price to sell at, but we can dictate whether or not you get stock to sell"

restricting stock is also illegal.... if a supplier does that ask them to put it in writing, they could claim they were out of stock but if one of your fellow retailers then gets the same item from their stock they've broken the law and the penalties are heavy. Companies get round it in many ways, typically giving "awkward" dealers a low to non existent margin then providing discounts as "retrospective volume incentives" or for branding, solus dealer gets you more etc , it makes it easy for them to then keep supplying you if you do discount but you miss the volume ttargets and if they need to the price the dealer pays is almost RRP so if they sell cheaply they lose money.

Currently on with a project that covers this reviewing our dealers T and C and trying to find a way to make it fair for everyone, fookin difficult i can tell you hence how I know its impossible for DUK or Martin to guarantee that any bike will be sold at full list.

i hate when people say its the end of a thread , thats why i carry it on if they do.
personally i agree that old arnie magic is rubbing off
:D :D :D

...In fact Ducati are racing exactly the machine you suggest!!!

Not in BSB or WSB Martin, JHP Buildbase 1098R's are currently being up'ed in spec as there's a global shortage of RS parts, and the BSB/WSB bikes are either F08's or RS08's which bear little or no resemblence to the road going R models...

I've got a mate who's just bought a 1098R without it turning a wheel he's spent in excess of another £25K getting it brought up to RS spec to race, but simple things like the "stock" R traction control doesn't work on RS discs as there's no sensor on them, plus the £8K Gas Ohlins forks don't have the mount for the sensor...

You're not comparing apples with apples sorry mate :D

No, I know that mate!!!

Read the line above - "For the first time EVER in 2008 - Ducati or not, you can now get something similar to a BSB or WSB machine."

My point is, the 999 (and all those before it) had engines that bore no resemblance internally (for the most part) to the road bike. Plus the tuning regs meant the twins and fours had totally different legislation.

The differences are far reduced now. (In general terms)

I know the modifications required are still extensive but nowhere like before.

I am also aware of the software upgrades, the shock, fork, chassis upgrades and the bodywork etc, etc ,etc .........

I agree with you, i'm being way too general but for this thread but ........ you know where i'm coming from. I just didn't want to get too into detail!!:)

Post #47 The final comment was 'in general' i.e. if the shoe fits, wear it and was aimed at no-one in particular. :)

Post #50 was person specific and such suggestions of drug abuse and defamation of character are totally uncalled for.:(

It wasn't me but I did think it a bit on the strong side...................

Agreed, that's why I deleted it, wasn't defamatory in ANY way, just some home truths, but not the topic for a Ducati forum I agree and aplogise to the members. If you push my buttons, I will push YOURS (speaking collectively Steve, not to you) , but harder. I'd taken a week PLUS of snipey wee bitchy comments. Heat, kitchen, get out and all that :D :D :D
