748 SP selling woes

As some of you know I've been trying to sell my 748SP all summer,it was mentioned to me t'other day(Mr Hindsight) that I'd dropped the price that much I'd be aswell breaking it !
Anyone ever broken a perfectly good bike  I'd keep it stowed away for another time but I could do with the cash, the dribble of cash as bits slowly sell isn't overly appealing and the space the pile of bits took up and I doubt you'd ever get the money you were after if selling a complete bike .
Your views.

Sometimes the fact is you can get more for a bike by breaking it for spares, it's a balance between how badly/quickly you need the money and if you have the space, as ideally you need to strip, package and weigh the components in readiness for Ebay.
If you do take a time and date stamped video with a 'that days paper' in the shot to prove that it's complete, running and in good order, otherwise you WILL get someone wanting to hear it run after it's apart.
It would be a crying shame to do it but if that's the only way you'll get a good return and can store and wait for all the bits to sell then why not!
If you have a pair of carbon termis I'll help start your fund with a generous offer of 50 quid btw, :-)

Sell parts as a buy it now do some research on what bits are selling for you will get a lot more for your bike breaking than as a whole, why do you think there are bike breakers all over the place.
You will have to spend time breaking the bike and packaging but I am certain you will make a lot more that way.
p.s. start a shop that way you only have 10p insertion each bit and with a buy it now you can tick the box good till sold it is then re inserted every 31 days automatically with the 10p insertion fee.

i think the last two guys missed this bit

"the dribble of cash as bits slowly sell isn't overly appealing " :)

No I did not miss that bit, I would rather double my money over a period of time than make a loss!

How about trading the SP against something which could sell on quicker? Could be faster than breaking, definitely less work...

You would but I think the cjk guy wouldn't

And g.spots is a good idea , I've got a pretty good eye
for a photie, so I could help out..:)

Some dealers buy good used Motorcycles, wont be top dollar, but at least its out of the way and you have some cash, was in Ducati Preston t'other day and they have quite a few decent pre-loved bikes, maybe there is a friendly dealer near you, some people prefer to buy from a dealer thinking they are going to have piece of mind, you never know.

breaking bikes tut tut only if they are bent :(

Like I said initially, it's a balance, if you want rid of the lot and a chunk of cash you'll have to stand a loss on previous market values as, if you've looked around, you'll note there's not a lot selling this year, economy, wages, increases elsewhere and a crap summer everywhere but up here won't have helped, it's feasible next year will be different again and you'll have a queue of people ripping your hand off for it.
But if you insist, go on then, £150 for the whole bike and I'll even collect it, :-)
You'll definitely get more in bits currently, the only decider is can you be bothered?

i'd thought about the red job for about two seconds, and then... i didn't

Red ducatis are as common as whatever common things are,

Yellow 748s S.P.'s are cool :)

Hi Col,
IMHO 748's even the hot versions are a no-go as far as breaking a good one is concerned. The engines are hard pushed to fetch £500(there was an SPS unit on the bay last week that didn't get a tickle even at 480 starting price), frames are only £300 odd even hpi clear and a bundle of history. Wheels are only £175 a pair for 3 spokes, bodywork only 450 complete as there's a lesser number of yellow ones out there then there's less yellow ones crashed and needing spares! Forks only a ton for 45mm non Nitrided items, that's most of the big stuff gone and you're not even at 1500 squiddlies? I know it's not what you want to hear but if you can possibly afford it the best thing to do is keep it in good nick and they will be appreciating in good time. The 916 has started to go up and this will drag the prices of the wee ones up too. Only my tuppence worth but I have broken a few in the last few years, you've been in my garage so you know what I mean! ;-)

I agree 100% We've broke bikes in the past and it can be a long slog, plus you will get rid of the fancy bits first and your left with a lot of bits sitting in boxes and bags all over the place.
Shops like mine ( my bosses) will take on nice clean bikes and sell them on your behalf for a fee of about £200, we put it on our website, ebay etc as well as giving it display space in the shop.
If thats no good to you, i will swap you a limited edition Vespa PX200 one of only 400 made all paperwork presentation watch/souvinere box etc
