749 engine removal

I have no enemies 😇, but our AC appears a lil jealous
Not what I’ve heard

So yesterday i pushed it out of the garage, stuck some petrol in her and pressed the starter, and it never fired 😂 bit of thinking and i noticed the little key flsshing on the dash along with the word "code" bugger! Turned ignition on and off 3 or 4 times and it cleared, tried again and it fired right up! Ran up to temp and rechecked oil/ coolant no leaks! So any idea why my key isnt being read by the immobiliser every time? Thanks fellas

I’m glad it’s running now 👍🏼

The antennae that reads the key chip can get dislodged and drop down the ignition switch column - part 8 in this diagram. When that happens its increased the distance twixt key and antennae and its ability to read the chip becomes hit and miss.

Thanks mate,il have a look!

Im back......... this one has me stumped! When i turn on the ignition ,the petrol pump wont prime and the speedo/dash wont light up,unless i have sidelights or main beam selected on the light switch! Anybody have any ideas? Cheers folks

Time to get the multimeter or test light or power probe out or all 3.

The only way is, armed with the wiring diagram, start to test the various circuits until you find the culprit.

Was it working as it should? Had it just started misbehaving or is this the first time you’ve turned it on since the works?

Could you have reconnected something incorrectly?

Thanks for the reply, i dont think ive connected anything wrong but i can give it a look over! It still runs fine and i could just run it as it is, but its not doing the sweep with the rec counter when i switch on the ignition amongst other things, ive got a wiring diagram for a 999( its got to be somewere near eh) i have my suspicions that the connectors between the main loom and front loom isnt the best!

How does it start if the fuel pump isn’t running?

With the lights on, must be a fault going through the lighting circuit somewhere
Yes thats right Barry, from what ive read in the manual i have( remember its for a 999) when you switch on the ignition the lights should come on automatically, then when you press the starter button the lights go off to save power ,then come back on again when the bike fires up? So why have i got a light switch lol? Am i barking up the wrong tree here folks?

Automatic driving lights - how very modern, best to change it for an older model 😁

I'd try light switch, earth's and light relays before condemning the brain. As it works with a frig I'd be happy the brain is working and you have some dodgy connection somewhere.

I'd assume the 999 wiring is identical to the 749, especially in the lighting circuits

What year is the 749?

My 999 is "1st Gen" with fully switchable lights. The 2nd Gen has always-on lights.

I assume the 749 is the same.

Yes.

It's likely you have fully switchable lights.
Thanks for clearing that up! So ive spent four hours o it today and im no further forward, i found a thread on tinternet were somebody mentioned a reset of the dash/speedo by pulling the 7.5 amp fuse on the headlights for a miniute, and bugger me it worked! Fully lit up the dash, rev needle did the sweep! Turned ignition off/ back on and back to how it was hmmmmmm
