749 front disc types

Friend picked his 06 749 yesterday but has different front discs to my same year and spec bike.
Mine has a flat surface to the width profile whilst his has a ridge channel?
 
Mine are wavy edge standards:D
I believe the last models in 2006 had these changed to wavy.
Not sure what you mean by ridge channel.
 
The discs on my ST4s have a ridge around the perimeter of the rim. I have no idea of the significance, if any :confused:
 
I know what he means, my 916 has the same ridge/channel.

(It's a secret so keep it quiet but these discs were only fitted for the handsome riders, it's to let the ladies know so they don't have to wait till you take off your helmet) :)

The profile, as it happens, reminds me of the valley round the circumference of a Wagon wheel, (the chocolate ones), :D
 
I'm guessing that the guy selling the bike must have changed the discs at some point. These aren't on the standard bike (any dealers here? to back up). Basically it's there to increase the surface area of the disc. Many manufacturers try to decrease the overall diameter this way, it's used in many areas of industry, think big audio amplifiers from the old days with the big heat sinks!
