999 second-hand

There's a 999 2003 with 4000 miles on the clock for sale near me for £6000. Are they any good ? Having had the 749 I love the looks and am really tempted. I traded my 749 for a Multistrada because I do a lot of high mileage rides with my autistic son as passenger and the 749 just wasn't suitable as he grew. The Multi has been fantastic and I will keep it (18000miles in 18 months incl. two trips abroad). So another bike would be a stable mate for the Multi. I have been thinking about a new 1098 in yellow but this 999 is supposed to be in excellent condition and although it's red I would put up with that for the shape, which I love. I am going for a look on Saturday but before I go are there any known problems with a bike of that age ? For instance my 749 use to stall on idle. I'm not bothered about niggly problems as I am quite handy with my hands (and Brain) when I can be bothered. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I think you could bump a bit off that price

I'd sell my 999S with all its bling for 6K and its newer with not many more miles! more importantly its yellow :)

never had any real problems with mine, look for service history, belt changes and possibly fuel pump relay ( i get mine replaced at each service as its a known problem). If its an S look at front forks, the Ohlins seals go every few years, got my forks away this week getting new seals/oil replaced.

What would be the price for part-ex it with a 749s ??? (in yellow of course) ;) :D

I thought you were in Prague Davie. I've just come back from there on my Multi. Great place. I've already bumped him down 500 quid without looking at it. It has a lot of bling apparently but I'm not bothered about that as I'm not a fan of carbon-fibre etc. I just like the shape more than the 1098 but I do like yellow (favourite colour) best. I have quite a few invoices out at the moment which my better half does not know about so was thinking of buying a new 1098 in yellow and storing it in my mates garage until my new garage is built. I will take the matrimonial consequences afterwards cos it would be too late and I will be happy whatever.
