I'm looking for someone local(ish) to the Glasgow / Cumbernauld area that I can do advanced training / qualifications with. Someone who's a bit more "streetwise" in their approach. I did a Gold Star training course MANY years ago and really should have done it then. There's just so many ways to have a bad day on a bike that it's worth taking the extra time and doing the advanced... let's face it, we all get rusty ??? And with a Desmosedici, I can't afford RUSTY. Happy to do this 1-1, or in a group if it was ducati / forum orientated.
 
That is something that I would also be interested in. Already doing the bikesafe thing but I think it would be good to do even more.
I would ideally like to do some track training but only in a very small group.(don't trust anyone elses driving and I don't mind crashing if it's my fault)

I met someone at DG a few weeks back that had done a novice training day at Knockhill - small groups, tuition, no fast riders, ALL beginners to the track. I've only ever done ONE track day, just booked Jerez, so need to get the finger out, if you're up for both advanced training and track - we'll both do them, what about Steven too ???

Just checked Knockhill web site - the novice track day was YESTERDAY !!!!

Stewart, I would be happy to offer you advanced training up at Torvaig Gulag, I can cut out a track in the paddock for the Ds16 to go around, also got a large gravel area for you to practice your emergency stops. Of cause I have to show you first how to do it on YOUR bike!!!! ;) :p
 
If you're looking for advanced road training then there is a branch of Institute of Advanced Motorcycling in Glasgow and one in Kilmarnock. You should find it on their website - sorry I don't know it. :D

I've been waiting to get bikesafe details for cheshire for quite a while now and frankly nothing seems to be happening.
The bikesafe website is pretty hit and miss and depends which area is 'clued up' with the technology it seems, for instance - North Wales (OK, as an example only) have 2008 details with free courses including FBOS for North Wales biker residents. Cheshire...still in 2007 dark ages.
Not being one for group runs I guess I'm missing out on the bikesafe attendances at big meets, but ho hum.
IAM anyone?
 
Having attended the Bikesafe day with foxy, I decided to try the local IAM.:)

First week, only two females there so paired together. Turned out the other girl was unwilling to do more than 45mph so my 'observed run' didn't happen.:(

Second week, once again two females, once again paired up. This female had done 200miles in the last two years and had not been on her bike for six months. I explained that I had done 300 miles that week and rode all year round. Fell on deaf ears, and,not wishing to appear rude to the other female I didn't press the point. Second junction she dropped her bike and then rode at 30mph. :(

I haven't been back due to BWR, meetings etc and I don't know if I will try again. :mad:

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who attends IAM if this type of 'positive' sexual discrimination is normal? :)

You are a great rider. Whats the point of having someone else with very probably no more experience telling you what where why when etc etc etc?

Do a Bikesafe with the Cops and be done.

Anyway. You have missed one vital point.

The Desmo does not have a badge bar nor one listed as a retro fit. So you're cuffed!

Oh Gawd how I missed you..... the bikesafe is basically to tell you what the wheels do... the advanced training is way above that, leading to IAM. Usually done by some ex or serving traffic cops. Anyway, I'm having a custom built top box for the desmo (by FCUK that'll keep a pizza hot), my IAM badge can go there..:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
 
I'm a big believer in advanced training, been riding over 30 years now and the way I look at it if I pick up one hint or tip that saves my life it is time well spent. I did the very first Bike Safe course back iin about 97 or 98, done it again since then and the police instructor pointed out i turn in differently on right and left, not something thats dangerous but on lefts I'm not as smooth but use much more lean angle, since then I've enjoyed trying to improve that side but it also reminds you you aren't perfect and there is always room to change.

I've been out with Mike ( the instructor i suggested) he's ex police instructor, MAC and also IAM and I know would be up for doing stuff either 1 or 2:1 or pointing folk in direction of IAM, if you want to improve your road riding its better to do this than trackdays. Tracks have little to do with road, simple things like body position on a track, head shoulders on the inside, weight over don't work so well on the road where vision through a corner is more important, on a track there's nothing coming the opposite way! and the type of training you do needs to be for the area you want to improve.
 
Im pretty sure your local bike school will be able to put you in the right direction. They probably do a 2 day course but you will have to pay for it. Somewhere in the region of £100 ? :confused:

I remember the head instructor getting someone ready to do the advanced course when I was @@@@ting myself ready to do my DAS. :)

Ive done a few with Glasgow north and it is always a good turn out. I did however find the standard of observers was very variable.

Overall it was def worthwhile but some nights I left feeling very fustrated!
 
I mailed bikesafe this afternoon regarding Cheshire Bikesafe courses using the website contact form and got a prompt reply to the effect of "We have yet to receive any dates from Cheshire for BikeSafe courses this year.
We have been given no indication as to when dates may be released"
Booo!

Oh yeah, the North Wales video (first time I seen it today) is sobering..average age of bikers dying on the roads of North Wales is 51.
 
I did my IAM training and test with EDAM http://www.edam.org.uk/ a few years ago and would recommend them.

From memory you get a mornings 1 to 1 expert training each Sunday for 10 weeks and any additional help you need, then a nervous 50 mile test with a member of the local constabulary!

I did much of my training around Edinburgh and down toward Biggar and Moffat where I was introduced to some fantastic bike roads A701/2/3! We used to meet up just off the Lothianburn exit of the Edinburgh bypass, then finish off at Braid Hill golf range for Tea and a debrief.

Take a good look round their website, they are a charity so the price is very reasonable.

My feelings exactly.:) Glad to hear I'm not the only one. :D

Might give it one more go.:D

Got 10/10 on the second attempt at the signs and 7/10 for the advanced rider skills test......

Makes you think...!
 
Paul, this is an excellent site, well done... didn't realise there was three parts to it.. so my observation is sh1t to start :D
Highway Code, let's not go there BAD, Signs 9/10 and Advance 8/10, so delighted with that... the Highway Code needs read, like TONIGHT.
 
Hmm, Highway code 2/10, signs 3/10, advacnced 8/10. sounds like when i did me driving test, nearly crashed twice on the test aswell and still passed :D
