Hi Guys and Girls

Looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help?

The time has come for me to replace the chian and sprockets on a 2003 749 bip. Ive always replaced these with DID on my previous bikes.
Ive just been quoted for them to be Replaced with a REGINA Z Ring.
Has anyone ever used these and how do they compare to the DID X Ring?

Thanx for the help in advance.:dunno:

Hi - I've only experience of DID (on 749R) and use 525 ZVM2 - my bike had previously been fitted with a 520 and that is not suitable - I changed after discovering a side plate which was about to give up the ghost, thankfully showed up at low speeds with a clunking as it passed over sprockets !!

Are you altering gearing at all, eg dropping one below stock at front, or have you done that already ?

Cheers
Ronnie

749 chain

don t know if youve thought about it but I down geared the whole bike as per a write up on here (ive got a 749S) (the largest sprocket on the rear is a 41 tooth I think - cant remember what size on the front 16 instead of 15 ?)
Anyway you need a couple of extra links in the chain to accomodate the larger sprockets but it does make the bike much nicer to ride at slow speeds and it really fires out of corners as its higher up in the revs for a given speed.
You loose a bit of top end (15mph or so) but if your rarely up there its no great loss.
Got the whole kit from B&C express for about £120 but its a good mod to do.

Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!!

So I'm currently doing a few bits and bobs to the bike and I'm not happy about the current state of the chain, so thought I'd look into replacing it.

I've had a few folk who know more than me suggest it's worth changing sprocket sizes at the same time and I've had a wee look here... http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/tech/gearing.php

So question is, if I decide to do what Shazaam suggests.. I should be looking at getting a 14 tooth front and a 43 tooth rear, along with a 525 chain with 96 links for my 749S.

I'm assuming it's not disastrously difficult for a bolt snapping amateur like me to have a go and fitting it all myself. That being the case... can someone point me in the direction of where I should be purchasing... or even supply a couple of idiot proof links!

Lastly... what's the consensus on chain colour... bling bling gold? standard grey? pimpy red??

Cheers!

Dave.

keep it standard id say!
dont think ud notice much difference on the road to be honest.
track yes...defo
road?? i doubt it

From what I've heard.. the bikes are over-geared for the road so it makes more sense to do it if your main riding is on the road. It apparently improves ride-ability at lower town type speeds and also improves acceleration. Both positives for me.

The only negative seems to be a drop in the top speed - which only really comes into the equation on track... no?!?

Happy to be corrected and no complaints about the bike as is... but if I'm changing the chain anyway, just want to make sure I don't miss out on a good upgrade at the same time.

Cheers!

Dave.

I don't know about the 749 but most Ducatis are over geared for road use and it is generally a huge improvement to go down 1 tooth on the gearbox sprocket, or better, up 2 or 3 on the rear. The 749S is 14/39 as standard and geared for 157 mph. 14/41 is still good for 150 mph and the bike should be a lot more friendly around town.

fitted 14/41 on mines last year, a lot more town and country friendly, often feels like it needs another gear on the motorway but not bothered about that
