Anyone owned an 1198S before

Reading a few reviews, owners reviews etc and the one thing that kept popping up on the 1198 S was it's lousy tank range with a few quoting just around a 100 miles.

Is the 1198S a good bike or is the 1098S a better all round bike?
 
I owned a 1098 a few years back, a proper Ducati. The 1198 is even more of a beast so I understand.
I’ve only ridden one once and that was at Moto Rapido as a test ride when I was looking at the 1098.
Robs R must be absolutely mental.

Did they have a quick shifter and traction control on the 1198 also?
 
The 1098 / 1198 TC is pretty basic by today's standards. My Streetfighter S was pretty severe and cut a load of power, so I had it on a really low level when I had the bike, around '2' iirc. Even then, it cut the power noticably. Something to note, the 1098R IMU is different to the 1098S unit, as it has an extra plug fitted. Really difficult to find if yours goes awry.

My 1098R has the Nemesis system fitted. Top kit back in the day. It has a dedicated IMU under the seat, new pick up ring at the front and a pod type display in front of the clocks.

Rob. you're 6ft plus aren't you? if so, how did it feel on the 1098? I ask as the 1198's apparent triangle allows for a taller chap?

All sports bikes are a bit cramped for me as I get older. I prefer a Tuono type bike now with a more upright position, but I guess it comes to us all. When I'm in the mood for a sports bike, I find it fine.

I would find an MV Agusta impossible to ride these days. (Anybody who's had one will know what I mean). :oops:

I found my 1098 really uncomfortable on the wrists/arms but my 1299 was pretty comfortable to be honest.
 
My 1198s will definitely be going this year; just need to find time to remove some fancy parts first. I love owning it but have other bikes & I rarely even take the cover off it. Giving the cash to our youngsters; it’s so hard for them these days.
Bonkers bike in the right environment; horrible otherwise.

I did see a review on the MV f4 by a 6ft plus chap and he made a observation that because the tank is sculptered outward at it's top that to change gear, he was having to take his foot off the rest and with a bow legged type move, then change gear. Sounded a bit scry for the taller folk
