Right , this is an honest question, and i'm ready for any flak that may come my way..
Do any of you have an opinion or experience of these
Aprilia RSVR 1000 R
just wondering, honest, and not about to defect, or sell the ducatis,
but there's a lot of nice ones out there for a much less than the ducs :)

Looks georgous, go for it, on a serious note, spoken to a couple of guys who had one and liked it.
Don't know about service.

workmate of mine had one until recently moved to it from a 900ss good bike no problems.used to tour europe every year on it.

I have similar urges, just about swapped a 916 for one 6 months ago,.they are pretty small/cramped for a big person.

like Jon says chat to MartinH he just picked a real nice R up at good money.

I had a later factory for a couple of days whist my 999 had work done, felt it was a lot bigger than 999 and it needed more muscling in bends, i'm small and prefer a bike i can steer with my body weight, ended up having to really hang off and force the rsv into a corner compared to 999, mid corner despite the impression it was heavier than the 999 it didnt feel as stable.

the engine is grunty, loads of torque and easy to use the power. R's and factory come with ohlins, gold brembos oz wheels, real nice spec for what you'd pay for them.

worth a sniff at if price is right imho

I was about to leave my house to go and buy an RSV Factory when I got an Auto Trader alert that a 998 was up for sale. 3 years old for the same price as a brand new Factory. And so here I am!

I test rode the Factory three times & was very impressed, as Mike says, it needed a good shove into a corner, but I found it tracked nicely once initiated, but I think I'm a fair bit heavier than him! Lots of useable grunty power and generally a very nice bit of kit indeed.

If I could justisfy another focused sports bike, I would definately consider one.

I have had two mille's mate, first one was a 2002 official Haga rep RSVR, all the usual goodies of ohlins, carbon etc etc. Fast, handles really well, sounds lovely, and reliable (for an italian bike)

The second one was a 2000 Rsv, just standard bike, nothing trick on it, it still handled well and was just as fast.

I you are going to get one hold out and pay a little more fort the 'R' version as for a few hundred more you get lots of carbon, ohlins all round and OZ wheels.

Hope this helps

Friend of mine has just moved to Denver permanently and has left his Mille R behind. It's a trackday special (no V5) but it's all there AFAIK. Last I heard he wanted about 1K for it. Lowish miles too I believe. You could get some decent bits off it.

Hi, yeah I bought a 2002 Rsvr a couple of months back. Great bike and cheap as chips....decent ones starting at about £2300 (I paid £2800 for mine) I cant imagine how they will ever get any cheaper? Can you think of any other bikes that come with Ohlins front and rear (+ steering damper too) for that kind of money. They even have a slipper clutch (of sorts) as standard. Funnily enough trying to buy an 02 model was how I ended up with my first Ducati and 8 years later Ive ended up with what I originally set out for. I still like the Ducatis though and I'm not trying to start an Aprilia vs Ducati debate. I had kept all the road tests from 2001 and 2002 and reread them all again before I bought one. The Aprilia always came out on top of the v twins tests against the sp1, tl1000r and 996S etc. The only one where it didnt was against a 998S which just came out top. Theres even one test that includes the 2002 R1, blade, gsxr1000 and the test concludes at a circuit somewhere in France and the Aprilia was about 1 second a lap quicker than the next bike.

As you can imagine the handlings great even though mines not yet set up for my weight. I find it steers quick (much quicker than a 996s etc) its fairly stable but hasnt quite got the planted feel of a 996 etc. But overall for me a much better road bike. Much roomier (I'm about 6ft 5) and i can happily do quite long days without the same agony I would have with my old 996. The engines a lovely thing and quite revvy but also loads of midrange and its very easy to be lazy and lug around a gear too high if you cant be bothered. Brakes are as good as anything you could ever need (same calipers etc as my old 996r) And it has lovely OZ wheels which at the time I believe were the lightest wheels fitted to a production bike (or at least big twins)

The stylings a bit love it or hate it but the build quality is top notch and the bike is easy to work on. The clocks are a bit 'Blakes 7' but they work and even have a built in lap timer, average speed, max speed and other trip related functions. Theres plenty of them about so take your time and find a nice one. The 2001 on models had bigger valves etc and are meant to make a little more power (to me the styling is nicer too) the 2003 model comes with radial front calipers (first production bike to have them I think?) Haga models go for a little more (+£500) and have a different top yoke and also a twin exhaust system. Edwards models go for a bit more still (cheapest Ive seen was £3800) and they have the radial brakes, twin exhaust (akras I think) and also larger throttle bodies and make the most power.

I didnt have much interest in the later models (rsvr & factory) as they are smaller all round than the earlier bikes and I wanted a sports bike I could fit on. Still they are good value and I have seen a factory go for £4k.

Loads of info over on rsvzone and also plenty of bikes for sale.
