Audi considering scooter

Schwarzenbauer also admitted that a two-wheel Audi was on the horizon. Although there would never be a ‘Ducati wearing an Audi badge’, he said that the Ducati brand could play an important role in ‘future mobility solutions’ for urban travellers, hinting that the brand’s two-wheel know-how would be used in the development of a future Audi scooter or motorcycle.

The attention of premium-brand car makers have been attracted by the huge level of two-wheeler sales in Asia, which are driven both by limited budgets and by the effectiveness of two-wheelers in dense city traffic.

Both Mini and Smart have shown concept scooters and BMW is about to launch its own battery-powered city scooter.

The rules need to be modified so that scooters can go a bit faster so they are not a hindrance in traffic.
If you means these 50cc moped rule things yes, but at WDW we saw Burgman type scooters doing 90mph 2 up on the Italian autostradas!

This was the article I referred to here.
I am fairly sure it was a May Autocar article I read.
Something like 65m scooters being sold in Asia from memory.

working in the scooter business, the big scooters are pretty much a waste of time. too big , too much servicing and too expensive. the srv 850/gp800 goes from a belt drive to a shaft drive, to a chain drive. the rear sprocket costs £130 retail, the 525 chain is about the same and the front sprocket is about £53 pound and if you dont keep on top of it the complete replacement after time to strip the required bodywork/ swingarm parts etc is over £500 give or take a couple of pounds. Bmw scooters they would come out with two different ones to do the same job because they dont appreciate that the whole point of scooters is versatility. your big burgervans, sorry burgmans with theyre semi automatic gearshift a waste of time after the first 20 minutes of playing with the gear box you never bother again.
if audi are going to do it i hope they go for nothing bigger than 400cc good looking and versatile and package it for no more than £4500.
thats my opinion any way

When asked about scooters at WPM Gabrielle Del Torchio said there would never be a Ducati scooter. He was asked about the Asian market and said some compromises would have to be made but there would be nothing smaller than 400cc.

He claimed the forward plan for Ducati regarding bike development is set until 2015 and Audi have agreed to this. There may be a 'Scrambler' at the end of this year and 2 new models next year.

In reply to a question concerning dry clutches Claudio Domenicali, Racing and Product, said there are a lot of trellis frames and dry clutches lying about in the factory which will be used. He hinted at a new model for the German show which some folks think will be the Scrambler.

i dont think a scooter would fit into the Ducati line up. Ducati sells themselves ,like harley as a luxury motorcycle brand . Aprillia have, for the recent past (20 years or so) sold a complete range with scooters included, so having the 850 included is really just giving scooter riders the chance to have a big "sporty" scooter. Not that im saying Ducati wont ever have a scooter. Aston Martin recently did their version of a small toyota and charged the best part of 50 grand for it , and they sold, theres nothing to say that in the future Ducati might not do something similar. I think though in the nearer future, standard bikes will be presented with Audi or Lamborghini specials.
