Chizel's Lockdown 749 Rebuild Thread

OK, got the loom sorted I think!
Only 1 thing I ain't sure about...
pretty sure the connection is rear brake light
(I don't have one) but what is the fused wire for? It just has a female terminal on it...

In case @Chizel - Founding Father has me on ignore can someone repeat this advice to him.
Based on other Ducati looms and my experience of Ducati wiring I'd say this is a post manufacture add-on.
I don't believe Ducati use this type of fuse holder, may be a standby battery tender connection, picking up a local earth (Neg -) near the point of egress.
Further the wire doesn't match other Ducati wires.

To confirm meter it out to the various positive +12 connections on the battery... may be there is one that also doesn't look standard.

Hope this helps.
Enjoying the thread.

Incase you are pretending to have me on ignore I have already told him - but you will never know 🤣 although you know already 👀

It seems to be blended into other wires, are they the indicators?
The picture clearly shows cheap black electrical tape and not the tape favoured by Ducati... sticky fabric tape or plastic sleeve.
And see the 11oclock position for a loom fuse holder style (orange fuse).

So with the wiring loom sorted, I turned my attention to the air box.
There is a removal procedure in the manual bur not a reinstall one.. just reverse the removal of course... its just a bit odd as most of the other components have both in the manual...
Anyhu, I pulled the lid off the box, it was pretty clean so just a blow out and put a bit of oil on the moving parts inside, put back together and gave the outside a good clean.
About to start putting it in and remembered the bike used to have a power comander!
After 10 mins of searching I found and installed that into the loom under where the airbox sits..
Onto getting the box in... what a fucken ball ache!!!! It's do fucken tight and visibility is shit! Nearly put it in with out the drain tube also so a few steps backwards...
Then ya gotta feed that tube and the throttle and choke cables through the correct pathways simultaneously as ya squeeze the box in... ( without scatching fuck outta ya nice paint job!!!!)
Just before she is home there is a shifty plug offa the power commander to try and get ya fingers to... then try and push it home while trying to see that it's not snagging any cables or hoses that ya might not have routed correctly ( there was one as I had misinterpreted one of the diagrams)
Then do up the clamps for the throttle bodies. Ya gotta have em in the right orientation to get a driver to em and ghe fuckers wanna spin as you try to tighten em!
Obviously there is no way of getting a hand to em...

All and all a Guinness of a job that I hope never to have to do again..
Didn't take many pics as I was to pissed off and those I took are probably shit as I'm about as good a photographer as I am a mechanic!!!!!

I think if I ever buy another bike I'll be naked... just such a shame to cover up such a beautiful frame and engine with so much plastic shit and wiring...
This bike just gets uglier the more it goes back together..
That and I have sausage fingers and can't be doing all This fiddly crap....

My Mts1200dvt was a right pfaff around too! I battled the airbox off and on again too! But…to be honest, the airbox on my 85 GSXR750 was worse! Unless you pulled the engine first.
So anyway, I suggest you be careful if you get tomato sauce etc on those fingers!

Otherwise known as a Friday Special.
I was in Bologna one year at the Piazza Maggiore with the x and we where sat outside of this bar with a Mortadello shop next door, there where five guys in suits eating these fuck off rolls and they where washing it down with large amounts of vino. You couldn't make it up. :ROFLMAO:

Been to bologna 4 or 5 times.. love that city!!! Couldn't tell ya where exactly. It's all Greek to me.....

½¹Take it back to London and leave it outside for a few minutes. It'll be stripped down in seconds. 🤷‍♂️
One of my ss's and my 749s were stolen in London.... the ss from my bros house over night but the 749 was taken from the house i was working on, In broad daylight as I watched pretty much..
Brazen as fuck..
Not so bad here in nz. All the gangsters want Harleys... deluded fucktards...

It is a great city, been there 4 times and stayed there for 2 days before we went to San Mauro Mare to stay with friends. I love Italy full stop, the way things are translated just don't make sense half the time but it sort of works and i like that. :)

Where was I? Airbox in and more plastic shit bolted on.. today , after I got back ashore, I turned my attention to the exhaust... swore I'd never try and polish anything ever again after getting the pros to do my 748 stuff but there is no metal polishing outfits in this Lil city do I'll give it a bash..
Going OK.. spent about an hour so far to do one pipe.. it could and will be better with a proper buff but I'm not unhappy at all.
I think it's gunna be a good 8-10 hours all up...

Looking good Chiz, maybe pop across the Tasman sea and show Everard how its done! :D

So a bit more polishing after work today..
It's nearly there, only the end can to clean up.
Hasn't taken nearly as long as I thought it would, bout 4 hours so far..
I've used a sorta stiping wheel on the drill ( like hard scotch bright) to get rid of the real mucky stuff and any pitting, then wrapped a strip of fine scotch bright around that wheel and gave it another bash, then 400, 600 and 1200 wet and dry before autosol metal polish and fluffy buffing wheel on the drill.
It's not as good as the pros job on the 748 but it's pretty fucken good and I'm pleased with it..
As we all know, it will discolor again in short order once running but I like a clean start...
Now I'm about to watch the froggy gp..
