Classic ducati

239desmo

Is it nearly bedtime?
First of all apologies if I am missing something blatantly obvious or as new to the forum if this has been covered before, but whilst there is a lot of discussion etc on post-monster models there appears to be nothing on older dukes. :dunno:
I like modern dukes but like many looking on here I also like (prefer?) pre 90 bikes.
Perhaps this is not the place for earlier bikes as there are specialist sites elsewhere but I know a number of ducatisti who have feet in both camps and a "local" focal point would be good and useful. :)

Hi 239Desmo,
I have had bevel Ducatis in the past and there are a few others on the forum who also have, or have a great liking for them. I only have the one Ducati these days but if I had the time and the garage space I'd be very happy to have a classic Ducati as well.
The majority of forum members have modern bikes but I'm sure that many also have an interest in the older models (Project Imola - speak up).
So hang around for a while. Let us know about your bike and your interests. You may be surprised.

Bevel Heaven

I've had a few (bevel drive singles that is!). I love them and right at this moment I am thinking of getting rid of the wonderful 999 for preferably a 350 mark 3. You can see a really crap photo of my Sebring cafe racer that I owned in the mid 70s in the members gallery. It was magic.
All power to your elbow, keep that 239 Desmo running well so someone like me can buy it if you are ever stupid enough to sell it. Hope you are changing the oil every 1000 miles?

John,
Changing oil start and end of season and about 500 miles in between. Don't hold your breath on me selling it. Fell in love at first sight and still feel horny looking at it. Must be true love. Previous owner bought it from some guy called Paul Smart who he reckoned knew a thing or two about dukes. It had been raced at some point and had a 40mm Amal fitted but on changing to Lucas Rita 12v wouldn't run as it should. Spoke to Rick Walker who suggested trying 30/32mm Amal or similar. Just picked up 30 mm Amal(new) off Ebay and have a selection of jets to play with now. Hope this does the trick.
Been sidetracked as I got a 750gt recently and that has been getting my love for a while as I get it back on the road.
Just not enough time!! :ohwell:

I don't know enough about the older Ducati's but they are something I would love to have a play with if I ever manage to get a garage.

Lots of 'absolute Ducatisti' on here aswell as Gizmo's new 'old' Laverda, also where is local ?

I too had a 239 and loved it and a 160, now a monster ,the future possibly another single. I like the light weight the grunt out of corners ,easy handling, and the EFN good looks. Used to @@@@ allover much larger Jap bikes in the bends.

I had a mark 2 Amal 34 mm and gas flowed head with standard downpipe and Dunstall (after a short time with empty reverse cone megger!! LOUD!!!)

I remember hammering a very surprised Suzuki 250 GTA on a hill as well as bends when the Sebring still had its 23 mm carb fitted....
