Clothing and Accessories

got the kidney belt yesterday it does help the back a fair bit I find as I have a knackered back from an accident years ago.

something I never seem to find in my Local Bike Shop

As a biologist myself with a bad back I would love to hear anyone explain to me how these work- Iv'e never been able to figure it out or heard an explanation that makes sense?
What exactly are your back problems and what does the kidney belt do for you if you dont mind me asking?

Are you back in the trade Gord?

If so where is your new shop, might pop in to see you and peruse your Local Bike Shop Stock

Ditto- would love to come and meet you and see some stock- in the Edinburgh area???

I have a confession to make.....

7.55 am first in the que for a set of thermal underwear, and man they are good!!!!
Sorry...

i wear my kidney belt for support and also because it keeps the heat in which with a dodgy back is never a bad thing. Kidney belts tho were originally designed to keep drafts off your kidney from a long day off road riding, Light weight clothing doesn't do much for keeping warmth near the body. The problem being that drafts on the kidneys can cause al sorts of discomfort muscle wise and can also make peeing sore .

as for my back problem I've had a disc removed because it was basically dead. what happens in laymans terms is that the disc springs a leak, perhaps due to an accident or possibly wear and tear and the liquid inside seeps out. The problem with this is that the liquid when free from the disc becomes like toffee, it moves out then sets, but in doing so it sets on your spinal column restricting movement and in worse case scenarios putting pressure on the nerves. the only way to fix this is by an operation where the literally open you up and then chip away at the "toffee" to free everything up , this should take an hour or so or in my case three and a half hours. they then cut away the ramaining cartilidge of the disc leaving just a central disc to protect the nerve. I'm really lucky in that i've had it done, but now the disc above the removed one is doing the same bringing with it the lack of movement , extreme pain and very little sleep, id say over the last month i've maybe managed 2 hours a night on average . but with my positive outlook, I know there are a lot of people out there who are way, way worse of than me. People who have feck all taste in clothing and buy ducati/rossi clothing for example

I work in a small scooter shop called Eclipse Motorcycles and scooters in Tranent, but here is the kicker, we dont really do clothing as we are too small to keep a big enough range to make it worthwhile. but your always welcome to drop by and say hi. i'm the grumpy git behind the counter, oh and unlike ducati glasgow no supply of coffe or buns either

Got you, thanks, good explanation, its helped me understand due to the nature of my back problems why a kidney belt wouldnt do me any good.

And jeez, on 2 hours a night sleep i know why you could be (self)described as a grumpy git!!! I am amazed you can even string a coherant sentence together on that little sleep. On a serios note i cannot imagine how awful that must be for you, I struggle to cope on any less than 7 hours a night, and so you have my full sympathy.

And i know what you mean about "those types"- god help anyone who thinks in their right mind that red and yellow go together;). The poor unfortunate souls. There must be a special place in heaven (hell) for them eh?
Amen.
:lol2:

Get yourself down to Lidl and buy all their stock and then flog it at a profit! ;):lol2:

Apparently it is standard practice that folk buy stuff and stick it on Ebay immediately afterwards..

yes i am gulity myself and there will be people out there that will say we have a damm cheek, we go about on some off the most expensive bikes out there, yet we're still happy to buy some very cheap gear........ but hopefully with resonable quality

You could always sew on your DOC badges over the CRIVIT/CRANE labels if you're a snob/ashamed :D
Bought the waterproof suit, boot covers and gloves meself

Good point! ok what i meant was, we may have nice bikes, but we like a good deal two:D:thumbs:

Would you believe it? The trusty Karcher gave up the ghost at the weekend after 10 years or more and today there's a deal on a wee pressure washer in Lidl. My destiny lies with low cost German supermarket chains... :D

BTW the bike cover could have been 'made to measure' for the SS/SL. The widest point is the exact size across the mirrors. Snug as a bug in a rug.

(Dinnae be sewing badges on waterproofs unless your needle makes waterproof holes :p)

what's about spare parts for yr kärcher?
It is an old model, a 620M, but I did pay a lot for it at the time on the basis that it was rebuildable rather than a disposable 'hobby' one. There are spares avaiable but it has been on a slow decline over the last year, very noisy pump, loss of pressure, leaking... then at the weekend the electrics joined in, the power cut from the pump but the unit itself sat and hummed quite aggressively in a way that surprised me the fuse didn't go. Soooo by the time I get it to bits (pesky 'anti-tamper' screws), probably replace the two main components (motor, pump), carriage, VAT, actually getting round to it, finding more gubbed bits.... £80, 150 bar, 450l/h with a three year warranty looks pretty good by comparison, plus I would expect that even in a cheap crappy supermarket washer, pump / seals / efficiency have probably improved over the last 10 years.

I'll keep hold of the Karcher though in case I take the notion to have a poke around at some point - otherwise it will get chucked in about 2 years time.

think so, too but i wonder how they would handle warranty things when they sell such articles only 'en block' on a week-end? well, in case the crap will see a two years + x time you can be glad to paid a good price, if not it's rather the same: you paid a good price, used it so far, throw it away and can go for a new one.

but yr kärcher is a fine example for paying a higher initial price, get a trade name, and have an after-sales service which includes a spare parts maintenance. buying 'cheap' can be saving money on the wrong end ;)

flog the kärcher in the (e)bay, don't buy the supermarket crap and go for a new kärcher which attends you the next ten year !;)

I bought a cheap washer from B&Q maybe 7/8 years ago.
Doesn't get huge use but now struggling with an oil leak and pressure dropping off. Cost £50 from memory so over the period it is actually good value.
The Lidl one at £80 looks pretty good! I haven't found Lidl stuff to be of poor quality. Certainly good value.
Ideally I would like a hot/steam pressure washer but prices seem huge for ones I've uncovered so far.

I have a wee power washer that I bought brand new out of Woolies 3 or 4 years ago. New cost was £60 discounted 50% to £30 and discounted by a further 50% to £15. When it breaks I'll happily throw it away :D I only use it 2 or 3 times a year so that could be a while yet:)
No wonder Woolies went bust!

Agree with all of your comment, tbh am a bit torn, it's in my nature to sort up the old one anyway (or 'flog a dead horse' as some might put it...); will probably get the crappy one to buy myself some time to fix the 'good' one.. Have looked at the new Karcher's, fancy a 4.91MBD but my 'rainy day' funds are already commited to a wee Ducati project so it will need to wait...

i don't want to claim that lidl or other chains offer poor qualities. let's say, i feel saver to have a responsible person/shop/manufacturer for higher priced products where i can go to if they're any problems/warranty issues. i could immagine that this is kind of difficult in case of supermarket weekend-sell outs.

at least it depends how intense the thing is used. probably derek's way is a happy medium...:)

I have a KEW Hobby 88 which I bought about 18 years ago and it's still going strong. Four years ago I treated myself to a large EHRLE hot water washer and it's the business.
It's used for cars, bikes, vans, lorry, tractor and I do the house and outbuildings before I paint then with my industrial spraygun. I discovered if I used the spraygun for two months a year it paid for itself in two years, as opposed to hiring. I also power wash all the horse rugs which saves about £150.

That's why I bought the rain suit from Lidl. I love my powerwasher.:D

I bet you have a compressor with a 5HP motor and a 200L receiver. You do, don't you ;)

I do.:D

..and lots of other bits and pieces of machinery and gizmos. I'm going to try and get the Massey started next week and service the sit on mower. Dad always said I should have been a boy. ;):D

I have fallen out with Machine Mart. Also with these kits that come with a patio washer I am wary of what % of my spend is going on an accessory that I will never use.

However the price from Machine Mart is almost the same as Lidl's offering so you are getting them free! :D
