Conti Reps for GT1000 Available Now

For UK owners of GT1000's:

Mark of Keihan Systems (www.keihan.co.uk) just called to say they have made a stainless Conti Replica exhaust system for the GT1000 SportClassic and now are looking for a bike to install it on for feedback. Asked if I could help find them one.

Interested?

Detail: They borrowed a GT1000 from a dealer - without keys - to make the system. They now are looking for a volunteer with a GT1000 to take it from here. No price mentioned but I think it will be not far north of free in comparison to the eventual retail price.

I have their system on my PS1000LE and it is terrific. They've sold out their first batch of those and are about to begin another. If you have a GT1000 I recommend you run, don't walk, over there to sort something out.

If this is for you, please call Mark or Beryl on 01527 518-525 or email them info@keihan.co.uk. They are in Redditch, B98 0RB.

All the best,
Bob

About time this was made available. Should go like hot cakes.Exhaust has been the major design flaw since it was introduced (apart from single shock) and the bikes are crying out for this. Good on them. All we need now is a bevel motor and it's sorted!:D

I met a guy at Squires recently one sunny Wednesday lunchtime who had one of the new Sportclassic 1000 with the twin pipes and was well p!ssed off with the pipes that had discoloured after a few 1000 miles!

You can hear what the Keihans sound like here:

or here

Bike is otherwise unmodified (stock ECU, airbox, O2 sensor). These are the prototypes - production cans are shorter.

...alternatively you can come to Knockhill in July and hear mine!!!! :p

They've actually been around for ages, I'm surprised people haven't put them on earlier. Then again the Imola ones are made specially for the Project Imola kit with 'Project Imola by Keihan' stamped where the original 'Conti' logo was stamped!

Keihan have been around for ages and I saw something a while back about being available for the PS Classic but I hadn't seen anything about being available for the rest of the range. Zard were the only others that appealed to me and I'm not sure if they are doing them for the "new" twin shock Sport or not.

...one thing that I found very strange to watch (on the second video) was the guy switching on the ignition, pressing the starter once and walking away. Not what I am used to. It's turn ignition on, pull in clutch (coz I never trusted Ducati neutral lights), set choke, press starter and don't let go until it fires, if it fires!!! :p

...what's fuel injection.....? :D

First, thanks for the welcome! Andrew Jones (Sec DOCGB) told me this was a great forum. Very pleased to be here (I'm London Rep DOCGB).

Next, more photos of my PS Rep are here:

Keihan let me bother them into making this system for the SportClassics. Have always known about their great products and couldn't imagine the PS1000LE without Contis (or with the stock pipes, for that matter). Took their time but it was worth it. That's my lard arse pushing the starter button in the video and yes, it was a little contrived. Glad you noticed!

The ones on my bike are longer than the production items, but Keihan still use my bike on their web page. A bit too dramatic for some, but I love 'em.

I also pestered Clay Carrier into making carbon huggers for these bikes (www.carbonfiberman.com). Don't know why Ducati doesn't offer them - they put bung holes in the swingarm for the purpose - but there you go.

If anyone can stand the idea of getting down to London we'd be thrilled to welcome you to our meets, 2nd Wednesdays at The Ship Inn, SW18 1TB.

Regards, Bob

Yep, sorry, welcome to DuN Bob! Did you say Hi in virtual bar?
Assumed the GT1000 pipes are in same position as stock bike but now wondering are they the same as your PS? Cheers.

Nice one.
I do think the chances of me getting down to London are very very slim indeed though, I don't do London anymore. Scotland, with it's population of just over 5 million is enough for me let alone what is it? 12 million in London alone? :)

Your PS1000 sounds remarkably like mine (which stands to reason really with simular pipes).

Steve Craven, Oz distributor of Baines project bikes, stayed at the house last week. His bike, like yours, sounds terrific with the Keihans.

He'd shipped his black/gold Baines SS over and recently was up your way - did you run into him? He won't do London again soon either. 20 million in all of Australia! Not worth the unfettered joy of riding 70mph legally.

Far as the GT goes, it will be the stock configuration: Part of Keihan's success is they don't mess with header layouts. They don't do tuning and don't want to. Still, I'm thinking we should put a dyno shop next door...

Yes I know Steve & Christine, nice couple. I was annoyed to have missed him when he was up in Scotland. He is winging his way back down to Baines now - I spoke to Geoff this morning, they are crating his Imola up there.
I met them when they were over to collect two kits back in 2005 the black/gold one of which you saw.
We've decided to have our own little (and I mean little) Project Imola club - well family really. There are only about 25 of the things world wide and most of us know eachother, Kerry (kerry SP3) is a member of this forum and has just gone lock stock and barrel down to NZ. :)

Well there not Conti's put I think a pair of Verlichi reverse cone megas should help , plus their a period upgrade for a 1989 851 ;) :D

I'll try to post a vid when there on :D

...and boy do they sound good - twenty time better and louder than the Conti reps!!!!
