being an old fart i have had countless duc's in various forms and it sad to say my diavel left me stranded in the leicestershire countryside dam side stand switch gave up , no matter how i fiddled it would not let me select a gear without cutting the engine. then i looked at my phone ....you guessed it almost dead, one call to the mrs to get a breakdown truck and it died .so bugger it reclined on the verg and thought something will turn up and 2 hours later a wrecker turned up .now i am 100+ miles from home but Ducati wolverhampton is just 30 miles so without phoning i turn up at their gate to be told nope noway sorry and i cant leave it there WHAT THE ####:comp2::comp2:. i am now totally screwed my recovery will only cover 1 trip on any one fault i would have to pay for extra to get her home.....i must have looked a real sorry state because the Ducati rep followed me out and rang the MD who was in france and they had a change of heart the only mechanic on site was a trainee but we all new what was at fault so a new switch would solve it .....not in stock aghhhh.....never fear they took one off a stock bike and yeah she lives .so from f### it i aint never buying another duc to being really happy with Ducati :Dwolverhamptons customer service.
so this was my 3rd duc brake down 1st) darmah fusebox melted. 2nd)748 solinoid not engaging. and now my diavel stand switch i think enough is enough

Good that it turned out well. And only 3 breakdowns in what must be about 40 years, says a lot for Ducati reliability.

This is why i dont run a modern bike. Completely unnecessary part renders bike useless. chances are it will happen again so either carry a spare switch or get it bypassed. I remember when i "broke down" on my FZR1000R 20 years ago, i had done just over 90k miles on that bike and then the electric switch that switched reserve fuel, broke....Went on to reserve and nothing. Was it an improvement over an ordinary manual switch ? Completely unnecessary i thought as i happily trotted off to the petrol station..my how i laughed

cheers for your thoughts guys
forgot to say my mrs ripped me a new a hole for my dodgy phone .kept the old switch which has three wires so need to find how to use it as a bypass .
had to do a day of diy as penance ...so far:D

Jim, the loom only uses 2 of the 3 wires. Pins 1 & 2 of the connector, black and white/black on the loom side. To make a by-pass, cut off the old switch from the connector leaving short tails and join the wires that go to pins 1 and 2. Or simply bridge pins 1 and 2 of the socket with a suitably bent paper clip :D

cheers dude ,will get the clippers out and then it will reside under the seat .......not that i am due another breakdown for at least ten years

I had the same issue in Glencoe with my Mutley a bent key ring and a bit of tape got me home but completely ruined the day out
