Enduro Italia

I've been looking at this and seriously thinking about it for 2008 :)

http://www.enduroitalia.org

There's even an option for pre ordering a new bike from Ducati now and having it built and supplied specifically for the Enduro Italia event. Hmmm...I think I could justify buying another bike if it was for charity :p

take a look at the "admin" fees the organisers charge. there's not a lot of "charity" in there.

its a scam, we get the same thing in mountain biking, people commit to raising money for a holiday sorry ride of a lifetime in aid of chariity, struggle to do so and all the expenses do is pay for the organisers costs. grr, <rant over >

5k isn't that hard to raise, but I must admit I didn't see the £1500 additional costs. To be honest I think I'm just desperately trying to find a way of justifying buying another bike :D

Saying that though, I really do want to do some sort of foreign adventure on a bike soon, whether its an organised charity event or going it alone and raising money for my own cause...the buy Niall a new bike cause...erm I mean the orphans...

Take £5000 and buy a stunning condition pre-57 italian bike and do the Moto Giro d'Italia. "Race" against mad 80 year olds on similar bikes who took part in the original races. Ride like a lunatic with your own Police escort riding equally stupidly. Eat and drink like a lord each night and get up the next day and do it again. Now THAT appeals. No pretence of doing it for a good cause, just doing it for fun! I just hope I get a chance to do it before EU bureacrats close it down.:)

Wohaw...that sounds class!!! I'm off to Google it :D

no need to google, there are photos in the archive here http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/archivef/motogiro/index.php

David Burnie took them in 2005

Some really nice pics in there. I understand they are changing the rules on the Taglioni class this year and that will hit a lot of the singles if they carry it through. I gather you can apply for dipensation and if your bike is deemed "special" enough you may be allowed to take part. Just wonder if this is the beginning of the end for it? Hope not.

God that looks fantastic! Number 176...

Seems to be the people taking part are there to "use" their bikes not take part in a concours event. Some seriously expensive bikes get an airing. But, there is always the resident mechanics following the tour around to keep you going should something fail. Nice to know.:)

Couldn't agree more, (and its not often i've heard Gizmo have a rant which says a lot)

If you want to do a holiday just take off and do it, and if it helps your conscience also make a separate donation to charity.

ive wanted to do that on an early lambretta racer for quite some time.where 55mph is an acheivment and the townspeople wave you through the town. hard to imagine better sport

Gizmo's reply is interesting and well justified I reckon. I saw this and sent off a detailed email with lots and lots of questions to get a better "hook" on the thing - despite several follow up emails from me, I have heard nothing! Says it all really. Steer clear. I have a "continental project" in mind for later this year, I'll post on DuN if and when it gets nearer to being reality.

Fancy some company? :D

quote Enduro Italia is an ethical and profitable business committed to helping Riders for Health in a long term, large scale way. Enduro Italia works on a set fee of £1,500, this covers all our business running costs, marketing expenditure and recce trips etc. Anything raised over and above the target will be split 60/40 in the charities favour. This money will be re-invested into other charitable projects.

so 1500 of your 5 k goes to them, add in hire of multistradas, hotels, back up service which they'll charge for, hmmm not much left to split 60/40 i bet. I've seen the ad in broadsheets, motorbike mags and Sundays, that can't be cheap to do either. there was a load of cycling trips like this a few years ago, cycle cube, cycle africe and I could tell from the letters we got requesting sponsorship whenever a new one was underway. the participants seriously expected a company to give them money to go on a holiday and genuinely thought the money was going to charity, it was only when i started looking at the fees and costs I realised just how little ended up with the charity :( I'd rather just give the money directly to the charity as it would have way more impact.

5K for a holiday riding bikes around Italy is very expensive, you could probably do 2 weeks in New Zealand or the States bike included for that. you could probably buy a cheap classic and do the giro come to think of it :)

yep, definitely will need some rider support at some point and company is always welcome.

Well, I'd really love to do something interesting on the bike, and soon. My life's badly in need of a bit of adventure again! Centopassi looks pretty good too?
