James has informed me that Dave (who was in Spain with Eon when the accident happened) has said that anyone who wants to escort the car from the funeral parlour to the crematorium by bike is more than welcome to do so. Their is a small contingent already and I have decided to join them as well. The Funeral Parlour is in Sherburn anyway, so it's no radical change of plan. Still meet at Squire's same time, a few minutes earlier may help. See you there.

Hi Maf, thought it would be OK.

Looks like we may have a small gathering at Squires' - 3 or 4 only, Mac has had to cry off, but BIG thanks to Biscuitandpotato who, although booked for four days work on a big project, has managed to talk his bosses into giving him the time to attend. We are meeting the cortege at the funeral parlour, where there will be more bikers to form up. Received a card from Foxy yesterday for the family and the DuN card is finished too.

It looks like it may be damp tomorrow but I have decided to ride anyway. Eon never let a bit of rain stop him getting out. I think he would have a wry smile if he knew I'd thought of going in the car.

Pete many thanks for putting in the time and effort organizing the signing of the DUN card on behalf of everyone - very much appreciated. The card I sent is on behalf of all at The Scottish Ducati Club to show our respect for a lovely guy who will be missd by all.

RIP Eon and happy riding wherever you are

I've just added a gallery of photos of Eon taken at events from the last 3 years, you can find it here

Rest in peace Eon

rather fitting i thought Pete.

Gizmo,
Many thanks for adding the gallery of Eon. Brought back the memories of chasing him over Shap. Thankyou.

I will be at Squires for 9:45 to 10 ish. I think it may be slightly damp, but don't really care.

Brilliant Mike, that's very nice indeed. Thanks SDC, I should have said before. Didn't mean to offend/exclude anyone.

Two interesting things today. Just completed a karting event at Teesside Motorsports Park. My son was racing with us. Last year Eon was with us. and James too. I was as proud of Dan today as Eon was of James then. Eon died two years less one day from when he first joined DuN.

Just returned. All went well. As on these occasions always a mixture of sorrow and light hearted banter. Two riders, Paul and Dave (who were in Spain with Eon) lead the car to the crematorium. Eight of us followed behind. The place was packed and there were some lovely testimonials read for Eon. Weather was heavy showers and bright sunshine, which seemd to reflect the mood well. The presence of the bikes was commented upon by more than one individual and was much appreciated. See you later.

Cheers everyone I will, just finished cleaning the bike! Forgot to say that the music they played as the coffin was taken in was the theme music from Ewan and Charlie - The Long Way Round.

Hi Pete,
After seeing the pictures posted by Gizmo I can now put a face to the name - a very nice guy and I remember speaking to him on the midgie masher several times - a sad loss.

Geoff

Hey there,

I'm overwhelmed at the generosity and kindness of my Dad's friends that he's met through biking. Firstly the donations that some of you chipped in with the boxertrix boys, we're hoping to buy a memorial bench at Squires in Sherburn. I'll post again when the bench at Squires is in place and hope that if you find yourselves out that way you can have a drink and a sit-down, much to my Dad's approval!

Although Monday was a difficult day, myself and my family found a great deal of support in seeing the bikes taking Dad on his last ride. The Duc's, beemers and even a couple of riceburners (as Dad used to take the p[iss out of David) were a perfect tribute and the noise would definitely have put a smile on his face. We joked that if he's been there we would have been half an hour late waiting for him to stop looking at all the bikes So many people commented on the escort and how brilliant it was, so thank you so much.

Special thanks to rockjock for putting together a booklet with all the Ducati forum messages and all your names. It's something I will most certainly keep for a long long time and the rest of the family loved it. Thanks for the cards also, from the Scottish Ducati Club, its much appreciated lads.

I think now the funeral is over I can begin to move on, the messages on all Dad's forums have been more helpful than you could imagine. Like I say I'll let you know when the bench is up, but for now thank you and hopefully I'll see you around.

James

Hi James,

I am certain your dad would have been proud of you and the way you handled what was a very difficult time for you and your family. I will definitely be over to see Eons bench and hopefully maybe see you again. Like many I find it hard to know what to say at funerals so I apologise for not having said too much on the day. Been thinking about Eon a bit this week and the thing that struck me was that I have never heard anyone say a negative word about him in the 4 years I had known him, pretty good going really as most of us have a bit of a bitch about each other at times.

Will certainly be thinking of Eon everytime I hear Lucky man or Heartbeats again.

Take care James.
