There are a couple of places in Durness for refreshments. MacKays Hotel and a bar/restaurant just up from the campsite. Stunning views between Tongue and Durness. Take your camera if it is a clear day.

yeah, i'm on me multistrada but Jon and Lil didn't really want to ride their trackday bikes with daytime MOT's touring Scotland for 5 days and I wasn't going to carry their luggage if they did :D :D

we'll have the camera, I always do. this link is from last September's trip

Do either of those places have an espresso machine? I'll be in need of my caffeine fix :)
 
Michael, can you get a sticker for me please, it will be just the job to cover up the big scratch on the back of my (motorcycle) helmet, I don't take pillions and I will send you a sae to post it on!

A few of us went round your route last year and stayed overnight in Durness but no-one in the group was drinking coffee! If this is going to ruin your trip I will make some enquiries and let you or Ed know. :)
 
Michael, If you are having trouble getting your coffee fix on the way round, have a word with rockjock as I am sure he will know of a fiendishly clever way of solving the problem ;)

I have a small problem with coffee addiction, started drinking espresso in Italy many years ago and now can't quit :doh:

it rained every day but was still enjoyable, that day around Gairloch it was a force 7/8 wind, multi in 4th gear on most hills struggling to pull. Got into Ft William frozen and wet but still smiling. Sun would be good but its about the roads, company, craic and food as well :)
 
this may sound odd, but I have travelled to either side of this globe on holidays and I am more excited about going to scotland in the possible rain than I have been about a holiday in ages :)

Although I may not be as cheerful if my newly purchased waterproofs don't work!!

Will see what I can find out. Tremors setting in will not help the bike's handling. :(

Lily,
I know the tale is that it always rains in Scotland and when it's not raining it's snowing! Not true.
Black Isle rainfall is about the same as East Anglia. West coast gets rain due to mountains/Gulf Stream etc but it is usually mild. Are your waterproofs midgie proof though :(

Nothing in life is midgie proof!!!

but if the little blighters can find anywhere to get in through the 98 layers of clothing i will be wearing then good on them :)
 
Lily, don't worry about midges at mine, we don't get them on the Black Isle! :)

I have found out they are bumper stickers!.....maybe a bit big for the helmet!

If you bought your waterproofs at the same shop you made me buy them waterproof gloves then they definitely will not work. At one point on my recent trip abroad I realise I was wearing what amounted to 2 giant sponges on either hand. I dare not take my hands off the bars in case they plummeted groundwards such was the amount of water them gloves soaked up. :( They are still drying out now!

Steve they were made for Hillman Imps as a job lot so they will be fine!! :)
To tell the truth I don't think the shop gets the joke as I am not sure they are supposed to be!
The pumps are relics of the sixties I reckon but it all adds to the atmosphere.
Pity the prices are not still in the sixties. :mad:

As regards waterfroofs you wont need them! We have blue skies and no clouds and everyone is in shirtsleeves etc. Typical day in the Highlands!! :D

We purchased new spangly waterproof's from a certain Italian store in Manchester, seems Mr Rossi likes their clothing so I'm hoping that'll be OK.

Plus I told Julian to sell you some dodgy gloves because you wouldn't commit to a KTM there and then :p

Looks like nothings changed since '78 then either! I would appreciate a sticker if you rememberand we can sort del & stuff when you get back! :thumbs:
