Fuel range, curious

Not thought greatly about it till today when the low fuel light lit up, it's not quite at the stay illuminated lit stage, still flickering but more on than off IYKWIM and reading 110.5 miles on the trip since filling.

Was just wondering what the expected norm for tank range of a 916 is (i guess the 996 / 748 will give similar?)

I get between 125 and 150 miles from the ZXR750 depending on how exuberently it's used.
it has a litre bigger tank so i'd assume that i'd get about 130-140 roughly with sensible riding.
I've googled and found lots of varying info from 90 miles before light on to 160 with varying chips and such.

Chip wise, all I know is mine has some kind of performance chip from when Wulfie had the 50mm Termi's on, it's running on the standard 45mm cans.
Not sure of the chip type but it works. (i'm more used to carbs and such)

Anyway, digressing there, just wondered if anyone with a 748 / 916 / 996 would chip in to see how mine compares fuel wise, cheers

I seem to recall 130 was the usual range I got to the light out my old 916, never did try to find out how far reserve would go but I did squeeze a further 20miles out of my old 999 with the light on solid (didnt really have much choice as that was the nearest station I could find but I was taking it easy and riding like reginald to save pushing ) ps both were stock maps .

Seeing as you asked, FYI....
749 usually gets 85-100 miles before fuel light goes on then another 20-30 probably (but obviously depends on different riding style and roads).
That changes to 100-115 before fuel light goes on if I use the super unleaded.

So I seem to be roughly ballpark, bit less than some, bit more than others. Of course I'm basing this on one tank so far all short blasts and up and down the box a bit, will see what it's like with a couple more tanks to get an average.
Is changing the eeproma simple business btw? I have the original supplied with the bike, might be worth swapping as a comparison at some point.

110mpg = not so fast run on 749, obviously riding style, servicing, what road etc are major factors in fuel consumption. If you like 2nd gear where you could get away with 3rd, 110mpg wont happen. Not on mine anyway, more like high 70s low 80's.

just out of curiosity (to avoid my own confusion) but
mpg= ?

That made me laugh, 100mpg, if only eh, :)
Had a quick calc from todays fill ups, first tank, local running was about 40mpg, the fill ups at fort wlm then same again on way back from tyndrum were around 45mpg, without being too frugal with the throttle on some if the nice open stretches of road back. I get similar mpg from the zxr, managed 50+ with careful steady riding previously.

Friend of mine had new 1098s, full termis, never managed much over 70 miles. Fill up in Montrose, Banchory, Stonehaven, Montrose (appr 77m), he would be on reserve at least 10m before Montrose. Apart from that great bike

The 748 will give me about 110miles on a good day at quickish speeds before the little orange light of bordum comes on. Just got end cans and a dp chip on it - not that it make all that much difference. Oh, most was 150ish being boring once..

The 1198SP does, if I'm lucky about 50miles before the light comes on!!! Okay, it's a full race system/chip etc and that's on a track, but 50miles....!! Just as well it's 20p/l here!

Handy little tips as i was going to be curious(panic) as to what the 748 done to a tank full, and after yesterdays run from Tyndrum i was unsure what my 750ss done, well Rab there was more than enough to get me back to East Linton without topping up,and about 3 litres left so your guesstimate was right for that tank fill(though i ride like a f***y on roads im unsure on-and as the wheel bearings arrived today for the 748,have been put in and test run,MOT time on Fiday/Saturday should see me on borders run on 748,now i've got a rough idea what they do to a tank full, could make a tank full last longer!

Monster 696+ with Termis and chip : 1 litre = 10 miles ; capacity = 15 litres ; range = 150 miles ; simples...

I'm little puzzled with your formula; do you get digital reading of fuel in a tank? Not familiar with (newer) Monsters. If you don't how do you tell when you spent litre of fuel? Or is your formula reads other way round? Still cant figure it out, not so simples, for me anyway.

Nope... no digital reading... just experience built up over 12,000+ miles. I know that if the fuel warning light has just come on and I put in 10 litres and reset the trip, I can expect the warning light to come on again when the trip says 100 - and it usually does give or take just a few plus or minus. If I brim it, the light comes on at around the 120 mark. I was once forced to go 25 miles with the light on when the filling station I had banked on was shut. So I'm fairly sure that the light comes on with 3 litres left, which is what it says in the manual.

That would be about 45mpg, what's the least you got out of it? Between lights, 12l

personally i used to get about 100 miles till the light came on
i took the tax disc holder off and amazingly, it went up to 115 :)

Sounds a little bit familiar...
