Hi folks,
East fortune for the first weekend of the Scottish championships. First time racing the 1098 at this track and with 42 entrants in the superbikes/sound of thunder/formula melville all mixed in one big race. I would need to qualify to even get in the race. Weather was dry but cold and bloody windy!!! First practice in the morning bike Felt mega but the gusting winds were scary especially on the back straight.
Qualifying and the wind hadn't let up at all, managed to qualify 19th which is 3rd in the sound of thunder class(Ducatis, KTM RC8s and Aprilias) really happy!
Race 1 after lunch got the biggest wheelie in the world off the start and lost drive off the line so left myself with some work to do managed to fight back to 18th 2nd in class. Was pulling a good gap on the riders behind but was struggling to keep pushing with the wind. I got overtaken on the last lap by my (used to be)mate Kenny and dropped down to 19th but that was good enough for 2nd in class and fastest Ducati. Think was there 9 ducatis out there so pretty chuffed.
Race 2 better start but still finished in 19th , 2nd in class again. Really chuffed with my first outing the big bike at east fortune.
Sunday morning.
Race 3 got a brilliant start was up in the lead of my class in about 10th place overall but I overtook someone around the outside of esses 1 and lost the front at esses 2 the bike slide away from me and I slide into the tyre wall. Was a big one about 120mph but the bike is relatively okay and my dainese leathers, knox handroid gloves, daytona boots and arai helmet all done there job. Feeling a bit battered and bruised! Leathers and gloves are goosed and the left hand side of the bike is looking very second hand but all easily fixable. But not possible to race in race 4
Positives from the weekend is we are on the pace of the front guys and there's lots left in me and the bike is a weapon!!!
