Well i've been contacted by the RAF and challenged to race a Tornado at the weekend!!!:cool:

I've got 150bhp he's got 32,000 lb of thrust!!!

He's on the runway and i'm on the taxi-way and it's a 1/2 mile race!!

I've chosen a 999R Xerox as my chosen steed for the event, can't wait!!

Here's how I see it transpiring: -

1) When the flag drops i'll be off like a stabbed rat up the track while he's getting his 22 tonnes of metal rolling forward.
2) If I can keep the front down good enough i'll be into second gear and a race crouch as he's catching up .............. FAST:cool:
3) I reckon at about 100mph he'll be alongside if not passing me and ready for takeoff.
4) I'm deaf & barbequed behind him as he hits the afterburner and goes supersonic!!!

So a small wager......................

What speed do we all think he'll catch me up / pass me?

Winner gets ............ nothing but to call themselves the winner!!:D

I will reveal the answer on Saturday after the event!

Don't even think you'll get tae a ton Martin. He'll have it just off 70% at the start but it'll be fun.
Best you wear a full fireprooff suit and three pairs of ear defenders.:D
 
How the bl*ody hell did you pull that one off? I remember someone doing this once before - top gear type programme. The Aircraft (Jaguar I think it may have been) was on him and past him before he'd covered 400yards or so.

They don't half accelerate fast - I reckon he'll pass you at 135mph.

Where is this taking place?

Since watching Top Gun for the first time many moons ago, I've grown to hate that c*nt Tom Cruise...especially after ruining my Katie...I've had all this time to get used to it and it still makes me sick :hissy:

...but, I do remember thinking that scene of said c*nt riding the bike alongside the runway as the F31 Stealth Spitrod thingy was taking off beside him was very very nice :thumbs:
 
do you want some moral support? I'll come and watch that one anytime! I'll even dig holes on his side of the tarmac! where and when?
 
I did some advanced calculations earlier that involved turning lbs thrust into hp, etc, etc, then went to girlfriends house for dinner and drank wine.

I deduced that the 999 will have more HP from the offset. HP/per ton, although the faster the jet goes the more it will kick your ass, I will write it all down 2moro when I get back from work and see if it still makes sense, to be honest once translated there was not alot in it, although he won't suffer from wheelies and wheelspin !

Should be fun! Strangely enough I happened to watch a repeat of and old Top Gear program on sky tonight. It was the one where they got the Eurofighter against Michael Schumacher in his F1 car. The Jet won! If I recall the F1 car was in front by a few feet at the 400 metre mark. But by the end (it was run over 900 metres for some reason) the plane just took off (literally) I think Schumacher had reached 190 ish mph by 900 metres and they reckon the jet was doing about 280mph or something.

The F1 car would demolish the 999r over 1/2 a mile so if the Tornado goes anything like the Eurofighter you will be struggling!

I don't know if it's going to be filmed as yet, i've contacted some of the TV stations and am waiting for a definite response. It's happening up at RAF Leuchars for the 43rd Squadrons Anniversary Famlily Day event.

I think you're right MartinH, i'm gonna be struggling I think!!:eek:

I just hope the Tornado hasn't got as much punch as a Eurofighter!!:D
 
Leuchers! That's only 20 minutes away from me. Can I wangle a way in? Maybe pretend to be the back-up bike ;)

Jesus - and that was just a baby jet. - What happened to the bike; that was a 911 Turbo and the bike should have lunched it at the mid point.

Martin, you may have the advantage at first mate, but as soon as those RB199s fire up their reheat - the Tornado will be gone! It's quite a sight to see; a fighter jet accelerating!

Try and have a round of golf at Lossiemouth when there's a flying program on that day. Your ears bleed when the things are on full reheat taking off about 50 feet above your head...........:eek:
 
bike vz jet type thing.

Are you being issued with a parachute ?
I dont think its fair as the jet gets to leave the ground, he should be made to come to a halt same as the bike - pretty sure it wont stop as quick as the 999R.
If you win are they going to paint the plane bright red and put a DuN logo on it ?

That could prove to be a bit nippy!!!

We've now lined up a Ferrari 360 Spider and an Aston Martin Vanquish S for two more races, thats's four in total, it's gonna be a total hoot!!!!!
 
Feckin awesome stuff Martin,

Guess you'll be doing about 120 when you get toasted (in more way then one):D
