I love my bike!

When I first got my 749 I struggled a bit with the handling and as such it knocked my confidence when cornering, especially right handers. Ive always favoured left handers anyway. Riding in Italy I must of learned something about me or the bike, guess riding in sleeveless t-shirt, shorts and flipflops would do  because since i got back ive noticed my riding has improved so much.

I've only got out on it 3 times since getting back but seem to be able to ride much smoother and faster and quickly got rid of all but the teeniest chicken strips. some of the roads I know fairly well Im able to do much quicker and not brake for the corners, just select the right gear while engine braking then power thru and away.

Ive never really tried getting my knee down, when my confidence levels are OK I can carry plenty of speed thru a corner with a little body weight repositioning and my legs tucked in. Last night I had one of my "I ride like a hero" dreams where I was knee sliding all over the place and had this great technique. Today as I was riding to Bradford I exited a round-a-bout and cranked over hard left, as I was cranking over I remembered my dream, so I slid forward and left, stuck out my knee and ssssscccrrrrraaaaaappppeeeee, the knee went down just as it had in my dream!

I then had to pick the bike up sharpish as I was gaining on a slow moving car way to quickly for that angle!

So in all I love my bike and am really pleased with how my riding has come on on it, although I think I need to savour the moment and not get cockey coz thats when accidents happen....

Nice one Steve.... glad you're enjoying it.

The only time i've had my knee down is when i fell off the side of my RD350 YPVS :o got away with it, i shouldn't have polished my seat :D :D :D

Ps did you get up to squires?

haha, yeah i got my knee, arse, back, chest, head down when i low sided my RGV250 on black ice!

Got to Squires, plenty of folk about, no other dukes but there was a gathering of MV F4's. The only highlight was a chap wheelieing a 'busa the full length of the road away with is bird on the back!

Yeah black ice.....
Fell off my brand new KE125(showing my age now) on the stuff, mind you it was well below zero and i was pulling wheelies ;)
young and stupid :D :D :D
old and daft now

Nice one Steve, it is set up fairly evil for the road, once you get in the groove though it is VERY rewarding and if you move around, ride it with a loose grip as you would an MTB it is awesome, you have Gizmo to thank for the set up, it is or was very track focussed, keep away from cats eyes in the road at all costs - badass tankslappers happen very quickly !

yeah, i always ride relaxed upper body. was hammering a b road i know with a very bumpy surface the front end was lively to say the least. not altered any of the setup, just taken a while to get used to it, now i 'kin love it! Oh it fly's quite nicely too, got a good bit of airtime off a hump back bridge between Harrogate and Wetherby :D

Weeian lent me his tracked up 749 at the last DG trackeve. - my god what a difference compared to the chassis on my Imola. There is an ocean between mid '90s chassis technology and today's! But once I'd gotten used to it, it was great fun! - still don't like the way they look but as a riders bike - thumbs up!!! :)

...my Imola will still keep up with a 749 though!!!!! ;) :p
