Regarding the famous kickstand on the 1000DS, what is the best approach?
Almost everyone has the left pin get ruined; I had the misfortune of destroying the one on the right. I wanted to check if it was tightened properly, and the aluminum thread stayed attached to the bolt with very little force—it was clearly already 'fatigued' from the vibrations.
I was thinking of repairing it with a Time-Sert, which should be much more resistant than a Helicoil.
To prevent the problem in the future, I was thinking, after installing the Time-Sert, of installing a stud in both holes where the kickstand mounts, so that I can use a washer and nylon nut.
